The "Fair" Sex in LotR

The way I was taught was that the men protect the women and the women take care of the men. If there was a burgular in the house, would your mother/sister/wife go and tackle him?

Gimli, I hope someday you are blessed to have a woman beside you who would be willing to jump into the fray, bashing a frying pan over the head of that burgler, instead of a silly female who stands there screaming her head off while her man faces getting the tar beat out of him. And perhaps war is not a woman's "job", but it has ever been their burden.
