I'm in total agreement with Bekah on that point. The written work of Tolkien connects with many of us on so many levels; from the gutrock of one's soul so to speak, that it is very hard for the film version to touch and make contact that profoundly in just a matter of hours-

Yes, you're right - and among other points, if you watch the movies before reading the books, you won't be able to create your own images for it. The ones you see in the movie will be stuck there.
