Mnemo, nemo, emo, mo...

Shire names may reverse the custom, but in Jolly Old English -o usually denotes masculinity. I'd rather not have a gender-confusing name, kthx.

What about Nemi as a nickname?

Sad thing was, I'd actually thought of that... Though you could make it Mnemi or Mnemie or something like that and it'd still be pronounced the same, at least in English (no initial "mn" cluster like in Ancient Greek. ).

Syne also has appeal, though, because in Scots it means something along the lines of "past time" as in "Auld Lang Syne," which ties in nicely with the whole Memory thing. But to pronounce it in English it'd be equivalent to Sine, and there's something really weird about being named after a trigonometric function*.

On the other hand, if it were pronounced Elvish style with the rounded u and extra "e" syllable (as I tend to pronounce all members' names that aren't recognizably English) it sounds rather pretty.

Look, I'm sure one will stick to me soon enow.

*...I'd better get off this tangent...

What about Syne, then? (Although in my mothertongue, that would be simply a vocative for "son". ) Or Mosey? (Though that sounds to me as having the same problem as above.) Or just MMS (Hey! But that sounds good, doesn't it?)

1). Can't have already been taken.
2). Must be sufficiently distinguishable from everyone else's such that when it goes through the inevitable contortions of nicknamery no one's confused.
3). I have to like it.
4). Greek is cool.

Point's taken, especially the last one! Although, I think Latin is better.

I vote for Nemi.

Welcome to the 'downs (or should you be the one welcoming me, since I've only been here a measly 2 1/2 years)?
