Even if he was pals with Bombadil... And Fatty was all kinds of awesome, too (as Those Of Us Who Have Read The Books know). He got to have a character arc--offscreen! How many writers do you know that give people character arcs offscreen, I ask you? They come back and he's mounted a full resistance movement!--until he got locked up and starved, that is.
