'backwards' suggests the R is the final letter. I think it likely that the R is the 'short direction' - I can't easily come up with either prepositions or directions which include the letter!

I think the structure is [direction written in full] + [preposition] + R, with a bit of scrambling between the two words. But I haven't been able to come up with a name that fits.

It's all in disarray, and backwards. For him. 'backwards' suggests the R is the final letter. I think it likely that the R is the 'short direction' - I can't easily come up with either prepositions or directions which include the letter! I think the structure is [direction written in full] + [preposition] + R, with a bit of scrambling between the two words.
