Is the password an elvish phrase meaning ENEMIES OF MORGOTH? NOTTO can mean enemy. Something ending in MORGOTH, anyway.

Well, some books have more than one name. That is your password hint, and when you solve the password, solving the rest of the clues will be easier.

Well, 'Morgoth's Ring' is like another version of 'The Silmarillion.' I can't find a way to translate that kind of ring and fit it into the password, though. More of a job for Huey, perhaps?

Maybe the theme is the CURSE of Morgoth. I think they're probably all in the NARN.

I think it's the same word, actually: 'rach' is the (possibly consonant-mutated) Sindarin word, which looks like a cognate to a Quenya 'racco' (though, full disclosure, I can't find 'racco' anywhere). Anyway, yes, apparently the Narn is also known as the Narn e-'Rach Morgoth, or Tale of the Curse of Morgoth. So... #4, I think 'returning' tells us that we need the final letter, and Morwe [the male Avarin leader] + N[orth] = MORWEN. ... except we've... already got Morwen. Um. Is 'Salle' a male name, to give NELLAS? hS

Sure, I guess we could go with the solution that makes sense instead... #6: Very embarassed not to remember what goes on and on... SADOR. #2: I was wracking my brains for way to get Finduilas from this, but totally forgot Turin's... aunt? Cousin? One of those. AERIN basically starts with 'air', though I can't make either IN or (rearranged) EN into 'right now'. hS

That last R... A preposition between a long and short direction. It's all in disarray, and backwards. For him. 'backwards' suggests the R is the final letter. I think it likely that the R is the 'short direction' - I can't easily come up with either prepositions or directions which include the letter! I think the structure is [direction written in full] + [preposition] + R, with a bit of scrambling between the two words. But I haven't been able to come up with a name that fits. hS

Tried NE and SE and ON to no avail. Maybe the longer direction is an order. Something like GO or DO.

I hope this applied only to Pervinca's guesses, because I think it's Gethron's buddy GRITHNIR, who neatly fits the structure I described in my post. He's RIGHT + IN + R, with the first two words scrambled, and then run backwards for the R. hS
