Legoli? Is that the plural of Legolas?

Well that's good to know Mith and I'd never met anybody (if you can actually say that seeing as we've never seen each other face to face) from Brazil Mumak! Is it nice there?

beech trees

"The name Beech is in early English boc, bece, or beoce; in German Buche, and in Swedish bok, and signifies either a book or the tree, the two senses being supposed to be connected by the fact that the ancient Runic writings were engraved upon beechen boards."

There follows a lovely discussion of the Beech tree-- one of Proffessor Tolkien's favorites.

"The Beech requires a thoroughly drained soil, and accordingly flourishes on high ground, whether calcareous or sandy. Its gray stems may thus be seen--often of great girth--throwing out their spreading roots."

Nuranar: here is some practical info on the beech, latin name fagus, elvish name Almost-Mallorn:

http://www.botanyworld.com/fagus.html

Quote:
F. grandiflora, the American Beech, is found wild from New Brunswick to Florida and Texas.
So I'd guess, give it a well-drained spot, sandy soil, hilltop or hillside (no swamps) and you might be able to grow one of Tolkien's Almost-Mallorns, even down there in Texas.

I'd like to hear from someone who knows about linden trees. Since Tinuviel's footfall is as light as a Linden Leaf, I've always wondered. Anoone got a picture or a link?

Try these.

There are wonderful beech woods near where I live - their fabulous structure make them natures cathedrals... very elvish

Wow Aman! You HAVE been busy haven't you! I was surprised to find myself on your list and actually would request a bit of a migration. I formerly was of Maryland, USA, but could now be said to be Ohio resident of quite some duration (12 years). Not quite Canada I'm afraid, but pretty darn close!

South Carolina...if you arent patient enough to read the list.

I live in the town of Goose Creek.

The funny thing about Goose Creek is the references to LOTR.

My apartment complex:Bucklebury Apartments.

Down the street: Middle Earth Plant Nursery.

Down another street: Goldberry's Flower and Gift Shop.

Past the fault line in Summerville: Bombadil's Pub and Gift Shop.

And in last place with the ranking:South Carolina, with one person (and Switzerland)

I'm from New Jersey . . . not only the state that's in the middle of nowhere, but in a town that's in the middle of the state that's in the middle of nowhere . . . does that make sense?

Basically, I live in a town nobody's ever heard of, so I'm not even going to bother posting it, but yes, I live somewhere in- central, I think, New Jersey. Forty minutes away from Newark. I think.
