FINARFIN!! That is the coolest and funniest name ever. Especially if you repeat it numerous times aloud.

I like Galadriel, Eowyn, Arwen, Gimli ( I dunno, it just sounds funny), Lothlorien, Peregrin, Bombadil,Aglarond, thats all I can think of at the moment, but I know there are TONS more that I really like. Tolkien came up with some really pretty names, which I thinkk is a really neat thing to be able to do.

Anything Elvish.
Any of the Dunedain. (even that word is cool) Anything that might apply to Aragorn. (especially his. He got some of the most awesome names...) The Istari. The Anur. The Maia. Need I continue...? If I do I shall name just about everything Tolkien ever discovered. Tolkien was a Linguistic genius.... *sigh*

I think that every name was given for a purpose. I really like elvish names though, they seem to have a power behind them. I like Feanor, Galadriel,Luthien, and Anariel. I found the last name in a language book. I think it means Daughter of the Sun

Gondor, Westernesse, and Faramir sound really noble and dignified to me.
Rowlie, Frodo, Saradoc, and Meriadoc are just nice names. I just like them a lot. Withywindle sounds really mysterious and unknown. Gorgoroth and Morgoth just sound like the utmost of evils. Bregolas, Maglor, and Maedhros are names of old, and I just like them because of that reason. I like names that sound really old and ancient. I most especially love Tolkien's Elvish names. I love how they each mean something significant. For places, I love Beleriand, Minas Ithil, Ered Wethryn, Ered Luin, Ithilien, Imladris. I love the name Greyfax that J.R.R. had had in mind for Shadowfax. The two trees, Laurelin and Telperion, are marvelous. Charcaroth just sounds grand. For people, I love Celebrian, Beleg Strongbow, Mithrandir, Estel, Imrahil, Elessar, Gil-galad (which always seemed to me to have a faintly Biblical sound), Glorfindel, Cirdan, Thranduil. My three favorites are probably Earendil, Ecthelion, and Failivrin (no one has mentioned this one yet; I love it for its meaning: "the frail Finduilas, that Failivrin, the glimmering sheen on the glassy pools of Ivrin's lake the Elves in love had named anew.")

I like Legolas Greenleaf (because it sounds so woodsy) and Merry and Pippin (because they sound so happy and British). The name Withywindle also strikes my fancy... It looks so funny and sort of reminds me of a Lewis Carroll poem.

My favorite names are Hithlum and Nan Dungortheb, because I can almost visualize the place when I say the names.
Hithlum sounds misty and wet, very hilly and green with oft grey skies and beautiful summers and springs. Nan Dungortheb sounds very dark and dirty. I always imagine crags and spikes of rock and many dark passageways and shadowy corners. [ August 02, 2003: Message edited by: Lord of Angmar ]

This is hard, I can't just say one name that is my favourite. Tinśviel is though something so beautiful...and so is Caras Galadhon. Almost everything that is in Sindarin or Quenya is beautiful.

good topic! There are a lot of great names, some of my favourite are: Eowyn, Nienna, Yavannah, Lothlorien, Tinuviel, Dunharrow, Nimrodel, Mirkwood, Frodo, Pippin just to name a few. I'll name more later. I'm having a bit of a problem here.

-Amarantha, obviously, is one of my favorites. I just found out there is an actual character named Amaranth (one of Frodo's aunts, I believe) but I like the 'a' at the end.
-Osgiliath...soooo fun to say -Elessar (fairly popular, I see?) -Elbereth Gilthoniel (fun to recite, too) -Sauron is fun to say just for the 'au' sound Pretty much anything in Elvish is fun to say... Dwarf stuff, too. I mean, just say Khazad-dum and you know what I'm talking about. Yeah...there's tons of them! [ August 04, 2003: Message edited by: Amarantha_Daisy ]

My favorites are Rohan, Lothlorien, Gondor, Galadriel, Gondolin(I haven't read about it yet, but I still like the name), Anduin, Argonath, Caradhras, Edoras, Laurelin, Narsil, Shadowfax, and lots of other stuff that I can't remember at the moment. I love Tolkien's languages, he was really good at making things sound perfect. Well, most things, at least. I really don't like the name Gandalf. But maybe that's just me. Oh, well, he's got lot's of other names, hasn't he.

~*LEGOLAS*~ even though the nickname would be Leg, or Lassie... oh thats actually kind of funny...
I also like Galadriel, the way Cate Blanchett says it in FOTR is so cool. And Eowyn. does that have an accent on the e?
