turin turambar?oh boy...been a while since ive read this. isnt hurin shackeled (sp) onto a cleft on morgoths mountain, and he lost his sister lalaith (translates to laughed i think) to the dark plague or something?

Turin is the answer I was looking for. Just to clarify: Lalaith, meaning laughter, was the sister whom he lost to illness, and Nienor, 'mourning' was his other sister, who cast herself into the Teiglin. So he lost both laughter and sadness.

Perhaps the answer is Lorien the Maia. He had part of Lothlorien named after him; the 'dream' part at least. And his spouse was Este, who is perhaps the lady mentioned in the last stanza. I admit that Lorien doesn't really fit the rest of the verse, but I thought perhaps...
