Harry Goatleaf! He was the gatekeeper in Bree, hence WATCHER. A famous PRINCE is Harry, although William gets more pics in swoon magazines *gag*. Goat is the only thing that is regularly paired with BILLY that I can think of, and a leaf in a book is a synonym for PAGE. That was a pretty straightforward cryptic clue, Saucy, once I thought of it right . Sophia

Are you Denethor, Steward of Gondor, who chose self-immolation, whereas his namesake, Denethor of Ossiriand, met a far more valiant end?

Is it Melkor? He chose his own destruction already during the Music of the Ainur. His name means 'He Who Arises In Might', so that would serve him better.

I'm going to say Gelmir of Angrod. He went to Nargothrond with Arminas to warn Orodreth of "a great mustering of orcs and evil creatures". Turin spoke against him and Nargothrond was taken. The other Gelmir lived IN Nargothrond and was killed to provoke the defenders of Eithel Sirion. The stunt was very effective. Much more so than the warnings of the first Gelmir. thus... Quote:

Turin Turambar chose his own destruction by not going after Finduilas, and Turin I of Gondor's reign was very peaceful, which would have served Turambar much better.

Ah, Finwe, you beat me to it. I just pulled out my copy of the Silm and was going to edit that in. Though mine was more along the lines of Turin under the name Mormegil, falling on his sword.....I imagine that you are correct, which is for the best as I could never have thought up another Who Am I? to post. I think we need a clue right now! At least tell us in what age he/she lived. That would probably help a great deal.

All right, so this person chose his/her own destruction (not death) and his/her namesake was an object that could have helped them.

It is indeed Ultimate Joe. I chose my own destruction- Melian offered Beleg his choice of weapons when he left to seek for Turin. Beleg chose Anglachel, which eventually was the sword that slew him. My namesake would have served me better.- His surname is Cuthalion, the Strong Bow... perhaps a better choice of weapon. Sophia

Maedhros? I tainted their white pride with red (Teleri ships stained with blood) but stood aside while the red turned to black (stood aside when the ships were burned) I'd have betrayed if not betrayed (he would have betrayed Morgoth at the peace meeting, only Morgoth beat him to it) My yet another betrayal was with faith repaid (not sure about this one) Sought the end but was paid in loss (the end of his vow; he lost the Silmarils) Yet none shall claim in gratitude I was lacking (he was grateful to the Valar for defeating Morgoth) My high hopes welded the children (not sure about welded, but the children could refer to Elros and Elrond) adopted and born and the beloved youngest (again, he adopted Elros and Elrond) In the darkness resigned plunged I, (he threw himself into a volcano) My high delight set ablaze to grief and despair (he won the Silmaril, but no longer had a claim to it)

Yes, it is Maedhros. Good guess, Loslote. You got the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 9th lines correct. (4) My yet another betrayal was with faith repaid -> Fingon repaid Maedhros with faith by freeing him from the menacles (5) Sought the end but was paid in loss -> He sought to die, and asked Fingon to kill him, but was paid by the loss of a hand (6) Yet none shall claim in gratitude I was lacking -> He was grateful to Fingon despite him having cut off his hand (7) My high hopes welded the children -> The children refer to the Firstborn (Elves), the Children of Men (Men), and the children of Ainu (Dwarves) -> They were welded in an alliance against the Dark Lord (8) adopted and born and the beloved youngest -> Eru Illuvatar calls the dwarves his adopted children, while the Firstborn is his children by creation, and the beloved youngest is of course the children of Men, the Secondborn. (10) My high delight set ablaze to grief and despair -> The Silmaril burned Maedhros' hand, which drove him to grief and despair. PS. Loslote, if you have a bit of free time, come join us in our Shire Roleplay "Homeward Bound"~ |

Thanks. My sister dear, in wild woods Wandered far from home. My lord and husband always would Follow her under stary dome. I, in golden gardens blooming Happy danced with sister-in-law, While songs, from tiny beauties singing, Mingled with the raucous caw. Famous I am not, for no great deeds Have my hands performed. But one who left my side for a steed Is everywhere beloved. Who am I?

Are you Celebrimbor, Celeb the Sindarin word for silver. The chief of the east is Sauron who later killed Celebrimbor, and mocked him by making the one ring. Gandalf has seen his craft in the west ( ) and is in posession of one of the three (Narya) given by Cirdan a lord of the coast.

Yes, I am! Correct on almost every point, Estanesse: Please continue. For those who like to know these things, The first two lines were merely meant to be a cryptic clue to the name: Silverlode = Celebrant - (speech in wrath = rant) = celeb + (edge = rim) + (Cheif of the east = Bor) = Celebrimbor. |
