Ha! I know what you mean... I've tried multiple times to read the Lord of the Rings in Spanish or Catalan, but I always end up failing miserably...
Also, I've been living in Barcelona, Spain for the past two years. Sorry, Brinniel! And after all that hard work too. |

Abercrombie! Nice to see you drop by. I haven't seen you in quite a while (not that I've been present for most of the past couple of years).
I must say, I am most amused by the obvious change in location for Mac and Eomer. Oh, and a teeny weeny edit: symestreen should be written as symestreem. Great job with this, Brinn! |

I too find this fact very strange... only three people living in Germany...
Either all Germans leave to foreign countries (like Mac ) or indeed the B-d does not get so many. When I still was a member on the LotR Plaza there was quite a large German group there. Anyway, I am amazed to have just read that Estelyn lives in Lippstadt! That's a bit more than one hour's drive from here... awesome! Now we just need some more people from the region and we can organize a big B-d meeting!

Haha, yes, I started out studying abroad here and then I liked it so much that I never left!
Nice to see you too, Lhuna! I've been around, but I hardly ever have time to post. Real Life loves to get in the way of the most important things... we should do away with it. |

I have been thinking a bit about this thread. . . Technicaly Abers is from the USA and Mac from Germany, they just live abroad.
Atleast I would still say "I am from Denmark" even if I moved to say Argentina. |

Looking at the first list, I was quite surprised to see that there used to be two other BDer's in Anchorage. I wonder what became of them. I think TheGreatElvenWarrior and I need to do some recruiting. Thanks for adding me by the way. By the way Brinniel, not to be bothersome but Laurinquë has a diaeresis above the 'e'. Very important. Hmph, now everybody will think Mac is American, and therefore, that I have no taste in men.
(Kidding, kidding, nothing wrong with American men. Also, American kezboards are the best - I wish I was tzping on one now.) |

Hey I'm from Croatia. You had a discussion about it some three years ago, right? Is Amrod the Hunter still the only Croat here?

Another German here. Born and raised in the north-eastern corner of Bavaria, living part of my time in Tübingen, other part in a tiny village in the Hunsrück (near Mainz, a little west of the Rhine).

Right. This may seem like an odd request, but I need some advice.
Could any Downers who are, have been, or know anything about, being a university/college student in Ohio, be so kind as to send me a PM?

I'd give you all the name of my town but you'd all just stare at the computer screen blankly. I live in the country side outside of a very, very, very tiny town in Southern Indiana about 30 miles north of Louisville, Ky, and am very glad to be living in the country again. I hate living in town - big cities and the countryside are better for not having the everybody know your buisness. Specifically I live on a farm in the country with horses, dogs, and cats along with various wildlife such as coyotes, foxes, racoons and owls.

Meh, this post doesn't really belong here, but I don't know where else to put it and I don't want to start a new thread since it isn't exactly Tolkien related...
I'm just curious to see if anyone would happen to be interested in recording a narration for a school project I'm starting on. I'm editing a travel log about Cotswolds and the voice-over I was given happens to be an American woman with a really annoying voice. If there's any way I can avoid using that voice-over, I'd love to since it sort of makes me cringe to hear it. The reason I'm posting on the BD (rather than try to find someone locally) is because I'd love to have a narrator from the UK if at all possible, although if someone who's not from the UK is interested, please say so. Anyone with a clear speaking voice and a mic that doesn't hiss will do. If you are interested, PM me.

Brinn--Not only the same state, but a similar area. I go to school in Salem, though when I'm home, I live a fair drive west of there.
I've actually been playing with the idea of maybe moving to Boston at some point after graduating from college in 2010. It has a great theater scene and I need to build my resume before I even think about moving to NYC. And I just like Boston. It's a cool city.

I live just on the boundaries of south-west Birmingham here in England.
I consider myself quite fortunate to share the same experiences as Tolkien did during his formative years living in the city, especially enjoying the splended views of the Clent, Lickey & Malvern Hills; along with visiting Sarehole Mill & Moseley Bog, especially the latter as it was thought it influenced Tolkien in his writings about the ancients forests of LOTR, especially The Old Forest & Fangorn. Of course another Tolkien influence in LOTR was the destruction of the country-side to be replaced by industry: of machine, brick, metal, fire & smoke. Clearly the city of Birmingham was during the 18th, 19th and early 20th century recognised as a leading contributor of the industrial revolution that swept the country during that period. Obviously this growth came at a cost to the wild countryside when Birmingham (and other cities) expanded at a phenomenal rate both in area & population. When I watch the LOTR films and see Saruman tear down the trees of Isen and stoke the huge underground furnaces where his servents toil day & night producing armour & swords of iron & steel, along with the scouring of Hobbiton, I am convinced he was influenced in his allegory by the heavy industry that pock-marked the city during his early years. I seem to have waffled on & on. Oops

Well,I am from the country that is always summertime, the country of useless politisians but cunning merchants, the very birth-place of democracy and classic art,the country of great seas ad stunning mountains,of souvlaki,of the mother that kills her own children....
Guess which country it is...
