So do I, but it has nothing to do with Tolkien.

Also, this has been done before, here, here, and here.

I seem to have a cloak fetish. I have 3 and I'm always browsing the fabric stores for new prospects, Though I rarely wear them.

Everyone tell us what color your cloaks are. Are they reverseable or just nicely lined?

I see you also have a fettish, My Lady.

I have a long burgandy with gold lining, but It was hot in the summer adn cold in the winterso I made another...

A sage green with a leafy, flannel lining. then I needed a short one (to wear with my quiver) so I made...

A short blue and gold one.

Cloak History:

1. Calf-length green cotton cloak, made and worn in high school. Wore it every day. Took a TON of flack.

2. Brown wool calf-length cloak lined with tan fake fur. Way too heavy... choked me to wear it.

3. Fingertip-length navy-blue wool cloak. Comfy to wear but not very warm.

However, it was enough to motivate me to remove the fake-fur lining from the brown one and shorten that to fingertip length, too. I forget what happened to the green one, but it's gone. So now I have two fingertip-length, single-thickness wool cloaks, one blue, one brown. They're not very warm. I wear them over my hobbit-jackets when I am walking the dogs...

Oh, this was about Middle-earth clothes, right? Capri-length twill pants make a good approximation of hobbit-breeches; they're selling shirts that lace up at the neck these days, I grabbed a few; and The Dress Barn is selling corderoy jackets remarkably similar to Frodo's brown velvet jacket... I bought one green and one red (the dark-brown comes in the wrong size, DRAT DRAT DRAT.)

Since I wear Birkenstocks anyway, I'm normally almost-barefoot. (I think in our culture hobbits would wear Birkenstocks whenever they had to wear shoes in order to get past health regulations.)

Anyway, I go to work dressed like a hobbit fairly often. I haven't told anybody that; I just do it. Nobody's asked.

(Uh, I almost forgot about the shimmery grey elven dress I bought in an indian import shop this summer...)

Yup. The hoods are sorta too big to be good though. They're floppy and the wind catches them. If I was to do it again I'd make the hoods fit more snugly around my head.

Mine's grey tweed with a coral satin lining
It has no hood, though I wish it did. But I didn't make it; it was sort of a gift (I was at school one day and saw someone wearing it. I complemented her, she said thanks and that was it. Then, months later, we were in a class together and she told me she'd injured her shoulder and couldn't wear it anymore, so she asked if I wanted it). It's about knee length and very warm. I've never gotten anything but compliments for it.

I also have the material for a dark grey and black plaid wool with a black satin lining, but I've never made it (yet). That one will have a hood.

* saunters in, nods a greeting to all present *

As it happens, I've a grey ankle-length cloak, hooded. Such a cloak serves well in many realms beyond Middle Earth ... I've worn it at everything from Star Trek banquets to SCA medieval banquets to a living history program set in the 1700-1800's called the Voyageur Canoe Program.

Helen

Well can I relate to your tale about wearing Middle Earth garb to work. ... Though one reason I backed out this Halloween at our employee potluck is that innocent Hobbit garb by itself is one thing ... adding to it the Ring on a chain would have been far too telling.

I guess I never out-grew the need to wear a costume, and I need more opportunity to wear it. I'm not into being thought wierd.

I'm going to make myself a cloak(well, maybe more than one). It's going to be either midnight blue or dove grey, and be made from the strechy velvet feeling stuff. Sorry, my mind went blank as to what that's called. It will be lined with a satin feeling material probably. I also want to make a green cape, so we'll see where that goes. I want to make a few elvish dresses. Here's an awesome LOTR costume site: LOTR costumes It has everything you could hope for in a LOTR costuming site. It's incredible! They also have a yahoo group which is very useful, too. Oh, as for clothes, I often go barefoot, too. Or else wear boots or sandals. I feel like if I have to wear shoes, sandals are less restricting than other shoes, and I love boots.

I, myself wear a gausy delicate dress, just modest enough to not embarrass me, but, filmy enough to keep men guessing.....of a pink color, lacy and soft. Makes it difficult to hide my throwing knives, but I manage

what do elves actually make their clothes out of? it can't be chiffon, because that's too see-through, and it can't be silk cos that's too obvious. it can't be either wool or cotton, cos hobbits and dwarves and men wear that, so waht can it be? i really, really want a Galadriel dress, to team with a pair of Goldberry fish-mail shoes, a wreath of elanor and an elven cloak, in an attractive shade of green. hoom hom. and it most certainly cant be nylon, because thats cheap and nasty. yuckity yuck von yuckville.
