NightKnight has just left Hobbiton.
Bregolas was Beren's uncle, not his grandfather.

No problem, but we expect a real masterpiece.

Question A masterpiece? *gulp*

Here is my puzzle.
Prepare to be...well, not masterpiecified.

1/(Name for two old Elves, and new Wild Men) + (Sindarin for waters below the priest - (dead laughter - (Culúrien's epessë - (33rd tengwa + chorus of creation - (holy one + beside the Lonely Mountain))))) = a treacherous lover.

1/something = gnihtemos. Get it?

EDIT: Too many things wrong.

Is "Sindarin for waters below the priest" a cryptic clue?
And
did it say "wasters below the priest" before, or am I losing my mind (more)?

Arithmetic question:
Does
1/(Name for two old elves, and new Wild Men) mean
(1/Name for two old elves) + (1/New Wild Men), (1/[Name for two old elves + new Wild Men]), are the elves and the Wild Men the same answer, or am I totally missing the point?

Edited that. And yea, verily 'tis cryptic.

Quote:

There are two "old" - note the quotation marks; they're not old due to age - Elves, and "new" Wild Men, that share a single name.

Hope that cleared things up.

The Eye Let's set a few things straight here...

1. If you give an answer, all variables in the equation must be given their value.

2. "a treacherous lover" is not evil.

3. "old" and "new" has something to do with BoLT and the rest of the canon.

There, Perks! Two hints.

And as for all your guesses...

Dark-Eye Hi!

I just want this thread resuscitated.

Reposting question:

1/(Name for two old Elves, and new Wild Men) + (Sindarin for waters below the priest - (dead laughter - (Culúrien's epessë - 33rd tengwa - (chorus of creation - holy one - beside the Lonely Mountain)))) = a treacherous lover.

Note: I just modified it a bit to remove a set of parentheses, and to lessen confusion. But it still yields the same result.

Now, anyone?

Hmm, I got the last part.

"(chorus of creation - holy one - beside the Lonely Mountain)"

Ainulindale - Ainu - Dale = Lin

I can't really find the epesse of Culurien/Laurelin, since I can't find one with an H in it... Oh well. Hope this helps someone.

I'll give away one more clue . . .

Name for two old Elves, and new Wild Men is Rog. Hope that helps . . .

The name of the 33rd letter (h) is hyarmen. Is this the one you had in mind?
Is 'dead laughter' Lalaith?
This is one tough riddle. Me very confused...

Dark-Eye Aaaaah!!!

It should have been "36th tengwa", not "33rd". Major syntax error.

And yes, Ms. Evisse, Lalaith is the "dead laugher".

I like rebuses, so I attempted this.

([named by shapeshifter] - [elvish noble] - stone) + ([where an unlikely pair ended their days] - island - g) + ([a jolly dancer] - [and anon]) + ([elvish winter] - ([blue water!?] - blue - R2)) + ([quenya for a hidden rock] - action! - song) = between a great one and an iron one in days past

Kicking a spambot off the main page:

([named by shapeshifter] - [elvish noble] - stone)
Carrock - ar - rock = C

([where an unlikely pair ended their days] - island - g)
Tol Galen - tol - g = alen

([a jolly dancer] - [and anon])
(no idea)

([elvish winter] - ([blue water!?] - blue - R2))
(no idea; 'winter' in Elvish would be Q hrívë, S rhîw IIRC, and 'blue water' something like luinen, but what do droids have to do with either?)

([quenya for a hidden rock] - action! - song)
Gondolin* - go! - lin = ndo

= between a great one and an iron one in days past

= Calen - ? - ? - ndo?

"Water" is not the best description, but it would have been way too easy if I was clearer... You're correct with hrive.
