I don't know, or I don't remember what happened to him. So what happened, did he continue sailing in sky until died? And somehow Silmarillion makes me think that he lived immortal..

Sorry about my English, btw. Hope even somebody understands.

It si told somewhere (in the Unfinishes Tale IIRC), that Earendil will play a great part in the battle at the end of the world (the Dagor Dagorath). Morgoth will try and succeed in breaking through the Gates of Night from the Void into Ea. At that same moment, Earendil will descend upon him from the high skies he's flying in and will cause Morgoth to flee to Arda, where he will be beaten by Tulkas (or Eru?) and Turin. This is prophesised in the socalled Second Prophesy of Mandos.

Eärendil was a half-elven as was his wife Elwing. As explained in The Silmarillion, chapter 24, &quot;Of the Voyage of Eärendil&quot; concerning their coming to Valinor:<blockquote>Quote:<hr> ****But when was as spoken, Manwë gave judgement, and he said: 'In this matter the power of doom is given to me. The peril that he ventured for love of the Two Kindreds shall not fall upon Eärendil, nor shall it fall upon Elwing his wife, who entered into peril for love of him; but they shall not walk again ever among Elves or Men in the Outer Lands. And this is my decree concerning them: to Eärendil and to Elwing, and to their sons, shall be given leave each to choose freely to which kindred their fates shall be joined , and under which kindred they shall be judged.'<hr></blockquote>Soon the choice is made:<blockquote>Quote:<hr> ****Then Eärendi said to Elwing: 'Choose thou, for now I am weary of the world.' And Elwing chose to be judged among the Firstborn Children of Ilúvatar, because of Lúthien; and for her sake Eärendil chose alike, though his heart was rather with the kindred of Men and the people of his father.<hr></blockquote>So Eärendil and Elwing become undying, but may not &quot;walk again ever among Elves or Men in the Outer Lands.&quot; Later, after Eärendil in the War of Wrath slays Ancalagon the Black:<blockquote>Quote:<hr> ****But Morgoth himself the Valar thrust through the Door of Night beyond the Walls of the World, into the Timeless Void; and a guard is set for ever on those walls, and Eärendil keeps watch upon the ramparts of the sky.<hr></blockquote>Christopher Tolkien then omitted the prophecy of Mandos from the text because of a later indication at the end of the Valaquenta there was no prophesy of the renewal of Arda, and he adapted that note to provide a new ending to The Silmarillion. But the pertinent part of the prophrecy from The Lost Road (HoME 5) is:<blockquote>Quote:<hr> When the world is old and the Powers grow weary, then Morgoth, seeing that the guard sleepeth, shall come back through the Door of Night out of the Timeless Void; and he shall destroy the Sun and Moon. But Eärendel shall descend upon him as a white and searing flame and drive him from the airs. Then shall the Last Battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor.<hr></blockquote>

That does not mean most people prefer those posts which hardly contain more than one sentence (if it is an actual sentence at all, not just a one-word-reply).
Being a fast and prolific poster is a quality. Sacrificing content for number of posts, well, is a totally different thing.
As Barrow-Wight put it: a post should always be longer than your sig. That's not a rule, it's a matter of politeness (as is the prudent use of the word 'hate', for that matter).

That doesn't make much sense. If you are going to explain something, does that mean you should post 5 times in a row?

I like long posts.. when quality and quantity mean a long post I am happy to read it.

I really don't see what the hard part of 'a post should always be longer than your sig' is... it does not mean that one should 'post 5 times in a row' in order to explain something, it means the opposite. Short post - long sig: <img src=frown.gif ALT=""> ; Long post: <img src=biggrin.gif ALT="">
And if one tries to follow that rule for oneself, and tries to force oneself to throw in some sense into his/her own posts (maybe even after having thought about what one is posting), one will either stop those useless one-word-comments which degrade a thread, or - and this second possibility is why personally like this stance - one will start posting with content.

If your signature is 20 rows, and your post 1.. Well, think about it.

And long posts.. I like them. I mean, if the post isn't something like that:

FIEFIEJIFJ

FEIJFIEJFIEJIFJEIF
