Sting Gandalf and Aragorn

I have to say, although I was very VERY happy with the outcome of both movies, I was a little dissapointed that the relationship between Gandalf and Aragorn was not shown. In the extended dvd Aragorn refers to himself as "a friend of Gandalf's" and when they are leaving Bree it is clear that Strider has told them that he is a friend of Gandalf's, based on Merry's comment, "How do we know this Strider is a friend of Gandalf's?" but hat is pretty much it. The appendices tell a lot about how they were friends, and the council; of Elrond sequence told how Gandalf went to Aragorn for help.

In the directors commentary PJ talks about how he would have loved to put in Gandalf's and Aragorn's hunt for Gollum, but there simply wasn't the time. I think that's all it comes down to, time.
H.C.

Same reason they had to cut the songs. Dang producers!

I agree that its a shame. Just remember that there are so many more examples of parts getting left out.
I would still have loved three five-hour films though!

Whoa, they had songs planned for the movie??!!!!! Awesome! I wish they would have put them in.
And yes, I agree they should have showed a little more of the relationship between Aragorn and Gandalf... but like you say, it all comes down to time.

I agree on the length. I would have loved for them to have been 5-6 hours long. I still would go see them as much as possible in theaters. I'm worried about RotK though. If they cut the end of TTT out of the movie, what will they have to cut from RotK to fit in Shelob?

Yeah, but even in the books you really don't see too much of the friendship between the two. They really don't have time to sit down and reminise(sp?) either for the fact that they are almost always fighting for their lives. Maybe we will see more of their friendship in the third movie.

I happen to think that the relationship between Aragorn and Gandalf was displayed very well in the films. I have to agree that in the book they just did not show very much about their relationship, so it was just something that they didn't have to show much of. (Oh, and Aragorn did sing a little bit in the Extended Edition)

I don't know... You see, it's true that in the book, there's so much more on the relationship between Aragorn and Gandalf.
It's just that in the movie(s), They always seem to be seperated. Whenever they meet - OH! NO! We're going to fall if I don't leave now! Sorry, (Aragorn of Gandalf), I need to leave! - So I'm sure that if they had a 5-6 hour movie, they would have shown them spending a lot of their time together and they would have shown the relationship.
-Maya

PJ could have done alot better on that. Especally since it was a major part of the books, I just don't get it.
~Burzdol~

Come on, Eowyn slaying the Witch King was a major part of the book. Gandalf's friendship with Aragorn was a minor part.
