Eye Legolas in the prologue?

Is it just me, or did anyone else see Legolas in the battle of the last alliance? When Isildur cut the ring and Sauron exploded, I could almost swear I saw Legolas sheild himself right before the shockwave hit him. Could somebody tell me they saw him too,(to make sure I'm not going crazy), or give me some book evidence that proves he could or could not or was or was not there?
[ February 08, 2003: Message edited by: Aerandir Carnesir ]

I highly doubt it, because he was not even alive during the second age, maybe it was just a elf that looked similar. I don't recall seeing anyone who looked like Legolas during that part of the film (unless Peter Jackson just wanted to put Orlando Bloom in there for fun, to see if anyone noticed)
[ February 09, 2003: Message edited by: Gorwingel ]

If he is in there, it's probably just an inside-joke. The movie prospectuses all say that Legolas is less than 3,000 years old, so it's not as if that's something that's escaped them. And I somehow doubt that Orlando Bloom just sneaked onto the set for a bet .

It is not Legolas, I dont think that the elf looks like Orlando Bloom. And the hair colour is different, this elfs hair is slightly strwaberry blonde. Although it could be Thranduil, that was a good idea.....

I would imagine that it may have been Thranduil, Legolas's dad.

I doubt incredibly much that it was Legolas seeing as he was not alive then, it could be one of his relations....Elves do look alike from a distance. I agree with the others, it is probably Thranduil.

Glad I'm not the only one who saw that! I was watching it the other night and went "Hey isn't that...no it can't be, he wasn't born yet!" But yeah, they do look alike. And you can only see the elf for a split second, unless you take it frame by frame.

I think I read somewhere that it's Gil-galad, but I can't be sure. It's most certainly not Legolas.

HEY! It's the hair guy! Anyway, it's not Legolas...unless...it was Orlando Bloom! Maybe they have some sort of subliminal messaging where they have Bloom in every shot of the movie! That would explain all the fangirls...uh...yeah...

Don't get "complete Tolkien companion" get Unfinished Tales.
Oropher's and Amdir Mal-gald's armmies suffered quite heavily, because Oropher refused to hold back, as he was told by Gil-Galad, refusing to aknoledege his rule maybe, and charged for the black gate, hoping to defeat Sauron. Amdir Mal-galad's armuy had been decapitated in the Dead Marshes.

Look like some of us can't differentiate between the books and the movies. PJ is one person who doesn't know his history. Elves at Helm's Deep? ELVES?!?!
Looking to the books to explain something from the movies is not always going to work. It is quite possible that they placed Legolas in the War of the Last Alliance to show his immortality. I'd be very interested to know if anyone has proof that it is or is not Legolas. Although I'm sure that Orly fans would refuse to believe he could look as chubby as Mr. Blonde in LePetitChoux's first pic!

First of all, he doesn't look a thing like Legolas. I can't understand where some of you are getting this idea from.
And secondly, yes Thranduil was at the battle in Tolkien's history, but does that really mean that a random film-elf has to be Thranduil?

Well Legolas DID say that Fangorn Forest made him feel young. So we don't know HOW old he is.
I'm wondering if our blonde-headed friend in the Last Alliance is maybe Glorfindel?

Hey, that's an idea! But the essay on Glorfindel in HomE 12, is unsure as to whether he came in the S.A or with Gandalf.

Well since i'm the one who started the whole Tranduil story I might as well be the one to put forward my case.
The elf at the Last Alliance did not wear a helm, the only other elves who did not wear helms were Elrond and Gil-Galad. I assume this was a decision by PJ to emphasise that they were important and so you could see their faces (Elven helms have massive cheek guards) I will therefore asume that the same applies to this elf.
(I know too much assumption)
Also Legolas was alive at the Last Alliance dont believe Mr Blooms 3000 year old nonsense. Listening to the commentaries on the Extended Version proves this. Oh yeah elves don't understand death, this may have been true when Beor died but thousands of years of war and suffering has left the all too familiar with death.

well here is my imput. i believe that PJ wanted us to take in the full meaning of the scene. i also believe he wanted to add a bit of mystery so people like us would be discussing such topics. he did this by showing a helmless, blonde, Legolas-ish elf. it could have very well been some of the eleves you mentioned but you would have had to read the books to find that information. as it was not referred to in the movies.

I agree with HCIsland. It was probably more for the effect than trying to say that this was Thranduil or somebody else important. In my opinion, the elf in question looks too young to be Thranduil. Plus, he doesn't look all that important.

No, that elf is not Legolas, nor is he Thranduil or Oropher or Glorfindel He's just a random elf (although he was "recycled" at Helm's Deep in TTT and for that has a trading card which names him Fereveldir). He is played by Ben Britton.
Here's his official website: http://www.theargonath.cc/fereveldir/ . (I also run a fanlisting for his character, which is linked in my signature )

I've never been able to find any information on the birth date of Legolas, though I always assumed he was born early in the third age making him around 3000.
If you have information on this Mordor-Queen, I'd appreciate hearing it.
Editted to add: After I posted this I did a little searching and found some threads on this, but the most interesting thing I found was a link to this article: Speaking Of Legolas
The author makes a pretty convincing arguement for Legolas being "only" about 500 or so. Extremely young, for and Elf.
H.C.
[ March 26, 2003: Message edited by: HCIsland ]
