Why thank you Nilpaurion. Just goes to show I have faaarr too much time on my hands...
Important!: Does anybody know what, "Klaatu berada nikto" means? Also, where is it from? Who said it and to whom did he/she say it? Any help would be much appreciated. Last edited by AbercrombieOfRohan; 03-21-2005 at 04:47 PM. |

It's from a movie called Army of Darkness, I'm not particularly sure on the exact meaning, but the main character, Ash, has to say it to keep the demons or deadites at bay. Of course he always forgets the last word with terrifically funny results. I suggest you watch it, it's a cult classic!! I believe two scenes were rumoured to have been honoured in the LOR movies, Quote:

Klaatu barada nikto? That's from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). The character Helen says it to Gort. It might mean something like Klaatu (the character) has collapsed, or is in trouble, but I'm not sure.
It's become something of a science fiction standby, though, and something of a joke. In Larry Shue's The Foreigner (which I'm currently in) Charlie, the main character (who is a science fiction magazine editor), shouts "Klaatu! Barada! Nikto!" to frighten the villains towards the end of the play. So kind of like "All your base are belong to us", most people don't really bother to think of what it's from or what it means.

Yea, I am a Fan of Phantom's signature. I'd vote for it in an election of best signature... I'm not sure what we would gain from such an election...
Rock on Phantom! Carnimírië, yours shall be my philosophy for life.

Heren Istarion's new one is wonderful - it is high time I reread "Le Petit Prince". A children's story that should be compulsory reading for adults

Nilpaurion Felagund, thank you very much!
Carnimírië, yours is excellent, funny how I've always thought that when people are speaking do you think they'd spell that correctly if they had to write it?, hm, most interesting. Piosenniel Quote:

Pio's is beautiful. I just read that recently and made sure to put little brackets around the passage, something I do when I come across something that's really beautifully written.

Nice, Encaitare. I always think that whenever I hear that part of the musical...also, when Michael Crawford sings his "bravi, bravi, bravissimi." What? Are there multiple Christines? I thought one was trouble enough!
Pio's is beautiful, I agree...and very fitting.

I just happened to stumble across the link in Kitanna's signature and found it rather enthralling (for me, at least).
The contents that result of clicking on the link might change in a while, but what I read was a list of comparrisons: LotR vs. "Star Wars". Even if some of you may not like "Star Wars", most might be at least somewhat familiar with it, and the comparisons are still very interesting! She connected some characters in ways I hadn't really thought about before. So, good job with the ingenuity. |

Thanks for noticing the sig, by the way. I derived it from my Physics teacher who always used to say during discussions, "Does your head ache already? Good, that means you're thinking." And he's right. |

I'm so late on catching the Legendaryfrog thing. It seems that I'm enjoying it far too late. Oh well, the quotes still rock.

Heck, Aina, I don't remember where it came from. But isn't that the way of originality, Mr. Phantom? The fine art of remembering what you heard, but forgetting where you heard it.

Nice siggy, Fea, and way to say where you got it from.

If you people ever wondered why Fea is so great, there's your answer- she remembers all of my super-cool old siggies and lives by them. You can sort of do the same thing with Yoda quotes.

Speaking of signatures, did anyone see the news today? They dug up John Hancock's grave for some weird researchy experiment question thing (can't remember exactly what it was) and there was no body in the casket. How whacked is that? Fea

Mithalwen needs to be congratulated, like everyone who has lines of poetry in their sigs, for choosing the appropriate THREE verses that is the sig's limit, well enough so that the chosen bit does not sound awkward.

A nice little episode, I thought.
I am always impressed by The Barrow-wight and burrahobbit and their ability to keep the same signature. That also goes for anyone else who has done so. As well as a hearty congratulations to all those who have thus far resisted the desire to use a sig!

Why thank you, Evisse, I heard it on "Poetry Please" yesterday and was reminded how good it was, a quintissential communication failure
Fea, I could change back.. but it would make the whole thing a bit too self-congratulatory ....They are so cute together - whatever do you mean? As for burrahobbit's - well I merely find it amusing that he expects to be given money..... I feel very underserving of the generous comments re my sigs since they are so rarely original - almost all are heavily dependent on a spark from elsewhere. But that is just as well since if I were inspired, I might inflict my own poetry on you - and that would make the Vogon stuff look like "The Wasteland".....
