Can somebody please explain the Fenris thing? I mean, I know who Fenris is, obviously, but why does he keep cropping up in people's siggies? Have I missed something?

Ok, I think I get it, this Fenris club is for people betrayed by their fellow wolves, right?
(Was mythological Fenris betrayed by wolves? Please advise...)

Well, he was chained by Gleipnir...footfall of a cat, beard of a woman etc. And he bit Tyr's hand off when the gods did it...is that betrayed? Perhaps....

Well It is the gods who feeds it and take car of it, but then when it becomes to big they decide to chain it. Thet trick it into letting them put the chains on by prettenting it is a game to test it strength. (it brakes the first two) That is kind of a betrayal.

Norse Mythology is a favourite of mine...
Fenrir, I believe that is, not Fenris (unless that is a different spelling that I am unaware of). He was tricked by the gods of Asguard who challenged him to get out of an iron chain, which he did easily. They tried again with a stronger chain, but the same happened. So, they asked the Dwarves to make something to hold Fenrir, they made a magic ribbon. But Fenrir was suspicious and would not agree to test the strength until Tyr agreed to put his hand in Fenrir's mouth. He could not escape from the ribbon and so bit off the hand of Tyr. They then tossed Fenrir underground to keep him out of trouble.
Anyway, enough of this, back to the topic at hand!

Fenrir is I believe an alternative spelling of the name (and was used by JK Rowling for the WW character Fenrir Greyback). But if we were going to be very picky then Fenrisulfr (literally, Fenris wolf) would be the most correct way to refer to this monster spawn of Loki.

I'm at a loss. Your mothers are all giantesses? You've all bitten off someone's hand? You've all been tricked into bondage?

A clue-the designation "Fenris Wolf" is somewhat wry and ironic in nature...
Oh, and another clue. I am the progenitor of all Fenris Wolves.

It is not something sought, but a distinction thrust upon us. I think the rite of passage is essential. It may come to you in time.... some of us dread becoming "Fenris Wolf and Bar" PS Fea has changed her sig to also true.. Fenris Wolf... it's not easy being a legend.

Curse Adam, Alice, and Others!
Still, it is nice having our little siggie club, even though one of our secrets has been discovered. Nice to see that nobody has figured out the other thing we all have in common. And Ang, I've been meaning to ask... what is the actual translation of your sig? My knowledge of foreign tongues only extends far enough that I should know more than I do.

I think it is Dante and it is very apt but I have not the skill in Italian to translate it well though I get the gist.
