Thanks again. But do you mean, 'Most people know of Jeanne D'arc'? Yes, most people do know about her, but they wouldn't necessarily recognize such a small picture, nor would they necessarily know that it was a picture of her in Orleans.

I have always enjoyed reading the history of Medieval Europe, especially the high and late periods and the Hundred Years War, especially the last decades were of great interest to me. The maiden might not not have been a great military commander, but it is undeniable that she acelerated the French spirit of nationality and the subsequent victory. That makes her in my books, one of the greatest captain generals ever.

To answer your questions, I am neither French nor did I rep you, though I think the latter would be the right thing for me to do now since I enjoy the avatar very much.

Bigger holidays?!

Halloween is certainly on par with the Big Three (Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving).

And I, too, love Pio's avvy. It is a deliciously evil pumpkin.

I also enjoy Gil-Galad's Autobots avvy. Though, I must say I prefer the Decepticons in most cases.

Not in England it isn't. But then we don't get Thanksgiving either. Just Christmas and Easter, and New Year I suppose.

Not here either, although sertain companies is trying to change that. That is quite annoying as we have something called Fastelavn which in resembles Halloween and have been selibrated for hundreds of years.

Anyway I really like Pio's avy and in genneral I think those pumpkins are neat. . .

Sort of is the same in the Czech Rep., where somehow, Christmas and Halloween are combined... It's called 'Mikuláš'. It has always fascinated me how fun it would be to have Saint Nicholas, and a hoarde of imps to visit my door at the same time, either with gifts/candy or to box someone's ears for being bad.

I didn't knew you're from the Czech Republic, Ka. Saint Nicholas always was an awesome holiday for me back when I was a child. It's like having a small Christmas before the actual big one.

As somebody who dreads dressing up, I'm neither very fond of the imported Halloween nor of the traditional Karneval/Fastnacht. But I found ways to survive.

and on topic (to chase away the chat skwerls): For all the praise of pio's, let us not forget Bethberry's avatar. It's beautiful, too.

It is nice to see that The Saucepan Man's avatar is once more wearing it's Poppy with pride.

This Remembrance Day may well be the last that we have with any survivors if those who served in the Great War ( I know that at least four of the remaining brits have died during the course of this year) and my dad, at 81 is among the youngest WW2 veterans. As those who were there leave us, it seems more important than ever before to keep the memory alive for the younger generations who won't have the first hand accounts from parents and grandparents.

That's Napoleon? Huh. Interesting. I'd know if it was Nelson, but not Napoleon. (I heard he was a little man - is that true?)
