There must be several Bloom Country fans here, because I think Mithadan's sig has a Steve Dallas line.

Back on topic, I noticed some time ago that animated avatars are not uploadable, yet some have them here. Any ideas?

For some unintelligible reason I always connect Steve Dallas with alatar... Maybe it's the avatar? (edit: that looks nothing like SD to be honest)

I think the 3 line sig thing holds for everyone. At least I think it has been widely enforced for everyone.

Which gets confusing when you see some people with insane signatures. It's not very nice though, when you change your sig and it says that it's too long even if it's not...

About how often would you say it is acceptable to change one's avatar? The phalarope is growing a bit old - I'm ready for something more elegant-looking.

You can change it as often as you want, but in order to avoid too much confusion I'd keep an avatar for some time.

You know, the first time I saw your avatar, I saw a person lying on their back in a dingy, and only afterwards realised what it was.

I've been wondering about that, too. Something to do with the fact that the original Fenris was bound by the Gods and only came free at Ragnarok?

Ah well, you'll just have to wait until you're Fenrissed, just as I did. If you let me know when you are next a Wolf and I am a villager, I will happily oblige.

I remember it really annoyed me when people started that Fenris thing, mostly because Fenris do not get lynched or die early, but survives and kills some of the good/less evil guys in the end.
After getting killed on day1 in Nogrods game (technically not lynched), I half expected somebody to mention the Fenris aspect of the game. |

Sorry to double post
But Sauce's wolf gets extra kudos for wearing his poppy with pride.
We have lost the last of our WW1 veterans in Britain this year, Harry Patch, the last Tommy refused a state funeral saying that the best way to honour him would be to look after the current servicemen and their families. This is what the British Legion does with the money raised from the poppy appeal. With most days bringing news of more casualties they need support as much now as ever.

I don't mean to sound negative at all, I do sympathise with the poppy appeal, but as a non-Brit who hasn't donated a cent to the cause I would feel rather silly with one. But I do like to see more flowers in people's avatars! By the way, did I miss anyone in my BD poppy avatar count? I couldn't have that now could I? |

It may be that this year with so many dying or being horrifically wounded in Afghanistan that it is bringing it home to a younger generation.
I don't know if I can speak generally as it is a particularly significant year for my family since my father (who served in WW2) is about to leave for France to attend a ceremony at the war cemetary where my great uncle is buried. He lasted 18 months at the front and 3 days in the RFC and was just short of his eighteenth birthday when he was killed. Now my nearest young male relative is joining up (thankfully to the navy). So it is very much on our minds. By the way, we are remembering the dead of all conflicts and not just our own nationals - so there would be no need to feel silly...

Remembering the Anzacs...
Nerwen's Galadriel avatar now has an Australian five petalled poppy . The Australian losses were huge in WW1 - nearly ten percent of the entire population enlisted for a conflict on the other side of the world and half of them were either wounded or killed. Truly a lost generation.

Next year I think I'll add a multicoloured poppy to my avatar. Just to be different.

I hadn't realised, until someone mentioned on here, that the US doesn't do the Poppys, I had thought it was something all of the countries involved in the war did. It's interesting to know that.
I love that here within a day of the poppys showing up, everyones got one, and they keep them on usually til Christmas. Yesterday at school at around 10am I saw there was a basket of about 50 of them with maybe 2 dollars in the jar, then only 2 hours later there was 1 poppy left and I saw a bunch of 10s and 5s and a ton of change stuffed full into the jar. It's awesome how natural it is for people to donate and grab one. And I remember last year I was at school and around 11 o'clock I spotted a bunch of people check their watch and then just stop in the middle of the hallway to bow their heads. It really makes me feel like the country is coming together and doing it so naturally. One of my favourite times of year.

Time goes on and so do our avatars. Christmas already Eönwë? You're always very stylish though, keeping up with the times! I'm not sure I'll go in for the holiday look this year - thousand year-old stained glass is never passé.

Ah, you noticed. It was amusing, doing that one. I was thinking it might be Gandalf the Red... you know, one of those days when Narya is kinda running the show or something.
