Re: Ahah!

Yes, Sharku, all of the dwarf names are in The Seeress' Prophecy, which is part of the Elder Edda. Looking at it again, there is also a hall named Gimle and a giant named Mim. Anyway when I first read Tolkien about a year ago I noticed the names from the Edda and triumphantly asked this question to my Tolkien-phile brother, thinkng I would amaze him with my cross-reference; he answered in about two seconds &quot; They're from the Elder Edda, ASK ME A TOUGH ONE&quot;. You M.E. lovers are hard to stump.

Re: Ahah!

What does the word 'théoden' mean, and to whom was it commonly applied (at least always so in later days)?

(btw, Odysseus, this reminds me I should really read the Voluspį and others again)

<h6>'Spring is all around you / and calls your name softly in the wind / Burning when the day is dying / she kills the rays of a boundless sun. / And falls after years of death / eternally on your tears of joy. / So feel, feel the hands of glory / that will lead you into a golden sea.' (Kirlian Camera, 'Ascension') </h6></p>

Actually, it precisely means 'Lord'.

So go on, yellow-booted-one!

Hmm, I doubt anyone else could get this one. Not to many other people enjoy this sort of thing for one. I was right there and I didn't even get it completely right!

What were the names of the swords of Gondolin that the Bilbo and company came across on there trek?

OK .... A relatively easy one

What treasure did Bilbo posess when Thorin threw him out out Erebor and where would you have found that treasure in the late 30th century of the Third Age?

Re: Simple questions to answer without looking at book

Was it the Mithril Shirt that was in Michel Delving (I'm guessing here) in the late 30th century? Or was it with Elanor's family in ??Westmarch?? Can't remember for sure, but the title of this post if 'simple questions to answer without looking at book', so I'm NOT looking! <img src=tongue.gif ALT=":b">

Yes... Bilbo was allowed to keep his Mithril Corslet when Thorin ousted him from Erebor. In the late 2900's the coat sat in the Mathom House of Michel Delving until Bilbo left got Rivendell.

Your turn!

Sorry for the delay! I was out enjoying the slopes this weekend. Here is my question, not sure if it will be simple or difficult. Name the wife of Turgon and how she died.

Erm...

I don't remember a river being named, save the 'dry river' that leads to the entrance. The River Minder looks like it could come from the Crissaegrim...but I'm not sure exactly. <img src=rolleyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">
