Nur, you got it, it's a dream. Well done, ask away.

Susan, is the answer to yours a match?

Here's one too, but it won't fool many of you:

The already-guessed riddle explained:

Time in a bottle, =an hourglass
the home of a king. =a sand castle
Sleep aide, =the sandman favorite
fun in a box. =sandbox

What am I?

Thanks, Maril! I really need to think up a riddle of my own instead of guessing everyone elses...

Well, I came across this when I was reading tonight. This is NOT mine, and strictly speaking it's not a riddle, but some of you might be able to guess what the answer is...

"They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but they cannot see;
they have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but they cannot smell;
they have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but they cannot walk;
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them."

I will post the answer soon if no one guesses it, because it's really not mine and may be considered a trick because some of you might think it's similar to my "Shoes" riddle earlier...

No, it's not a teddy bear. In a manner of speaking it IS a statue; but in context...This really wasn't a fair riddle; I'll post the answer this evening (EST). Y'all are such good sports! My hat is off to you! *bows*

Here's another that I wrote

I have two parts, a body and a hat,
Right now there is a third part, imagine that
I sit on fire hissing like a cat,
The third bubbles, the fire dies,
The hissing stops, and I am satisfied.

Susan, is it a tea kettle?
Quote:
He turned and saw that Sam was now standing beside him, looking round with a puzzled expresson, and rubbing his eyes as if he was not sure that he ws awake.
"It's sunlight and bright day, right enough." he said, I thought that Elves were all for moon and stars: but this is more elvish than I ever heard tell of. I feel as if I was inside a song, if you take my meaning. "

Question

Another simple one from Samwise:

I have a head, but no brain
generally, I have a smile on my face, but it dosen't necesarily mean that I'm happy.
I can have arms, but they are useless
With the rising of the sun, my life can end.
Quote:
"You don't need to tell me that!" said Sam. "I came without any, and I've been worried ever since. But I was wondering what these were made of, knowing a bit about rope-making: it's in the family as you might say. "

Nuranar, I was going to guess an idol but Susan beat me to it. How about a mummy?

Samwise, is yours a snowman?

How about this one? It's pretty basic.

Too much of me will kill
As will too little of me
In summer I am prayed for
But cursed if too oft I come.
What am I?

Yes, Kalimac, it is.
Quote:
"I have indeed!" said Sam. "And I reckon there's Elves and there's Elves. They're all Elvish enough, but they're not all the same. Now these folk aren't wanderers or homeless, and seem a bit nearer to the likes of us: they seem to belong here, more even than Hobbits do in the Shire. Whether they've made the land, or the land's made them, it's hard to say, if you take my meaning."

Susan and Kalimac, you are both correct: It is an idol. Here is the quote in its entirety:

Quote:
Why do the nations say,
"Where is their God?"
Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him.
But their idols are silver and gold,
made by the hands of men.
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but they cannot see;
they have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but they cannot smell;
they have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but they cannot walk;
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
--Psalm 115:2-8 NIV
I'm so glad for the responses I got! I was afraid it was kind of a weird thing to post.

Kalimac, is yours rain?

You got it, Nuranar . Yours was really good [Kalimac smacks self on head] should have recognized that from the Psalms, eh? Actually the only Biblical phrase that came to mind on reading that was "Why do the Heathen rage?" but it was close enough, I guess. Susan, you're up for a riddle .

Looking back over the list, I noticed two that were never answered (unless I just missed them ) I looked back through the thread, but couldn't find them to see if I had, in fact, missed the answers (I remember Stephanos and Samwise being the posters, respectively, but I could be wrong) Anyhoo, here they are. If they were answered, let me know, and if not, we have two more to guess (again) at if the posters are still watching this thread.

Quote:
What goes through the door without pinching itself,
Sits on the stove without burning itself,
Sits on the table and is not ashamed
Quote:
Though precious it looks, a shiny stone,
It was not born in the earth.
It speaks all day, but no sound is heard,
And no matter how far it goes,
It will always end up in the same place.

The "Goldfish" one? No, that's Mr. Greenbow's.
Quote:
It was Sam who had insisted on choosing him, declaring that Bill (as he called him) would pine if he did not come.
"That animal can nearly talk," he said, "and would talk, if he stayed here much longer. He gave me a look as plain as Mr. Pippin could speak it: if you don't let me go with you, Sam, I'll follow on my own. "

Mm...the sky?
Quote:
Sam eased the pack on his shoulders, and went over anxiously in his mind all the things which were stowed in it: his chief treasure, his cooking gear; and the little box of salt that he always carried and refilled when he could; woolen hose; linen; various small belongings of his master's that Frodo had forgotten and Sam had stowed to bring them all out in triumph when they were called for. He went through them all.
