Gil, what does anything have to do with dead chickens?
And TM - it might sound French (now that I think of it ), but then it should (I guess) be Thinlómienne , not Thinlómien - Thinlómien would be male and how a French person would pronounce Thinlómienne would be closer to the correct Elvish pronounciation than how a French(wo)man would pronounce Thinlómien...

But does this means I should neg-rep him since I don't think that's noble (yes, I know it's ironic).

You see, The Might, a BDer once ranted in her blog about receiving an unsigned neg rep criticising her beliefs. Eomer's signature has the purpose of discouraging (or at least hoping to discourage) this practice. This is hardly the place, however, for a discussion on neg reps, so I'll leave it at that. She got it from Harry Potter 6 (I think). |

I nominate Lommy's because of its effect: it got me, this morning when I woke up and realised that I have one hour time before having to go, reading the first poem about Tom Bombadil in English (which was for the first time I read it in original).

I believe both. Because I thought this was the intention of Rune's sig. "Hocus Pocus" is actually folk-interpretation of for them unintellegible words they heard often during the sermon... am I correct Rune?

You are correct Legate it is both. . . Some people belive that "Hocus Pocus" as you say derive from "Hoc Est Corpus" and then I thought it would be fun to change it a bit to "Hoc Est Porcus"
Thanks for the nomination. |

Well many don't want to accept the fact that what we are celebrating today is not Jesus' birthday (which also is probably also not the 25th of March as the Catholic Church considers) but the birthday of the unconquered sun, the winter solstice when the day conquers the night and begins to grow again.
For example the current Pope along with other commentators argumented that the celebration of Jesus' brithday precedes the festival of Sol Invictus, however the first celebration of Christmas on this day is recorded in 243 AD, while the first celebration of Sol Invictus goes back to 222 AD. Anyway, I hate the whole commercial background of Christmas, just as I hate the Coca-Cola Santa. So after all maybe it is best that it isn't really Christ's birthday that we have turned into this strange festival, but rather a pagan celebration. So, happy birthday Arien!

Sorry for the double post but I really like Mithalwen's at the moment.
I must admit that I was touched by this tragic event although I personally thought it was a matter of time when she returned to Pakistan. This only shows that certain countries are not yet ready for democracy and equality. She was a great lady who in my opinion fought a fight that can not yet be won.

No coward soul....
Thanks. I cannot pretend that I am very knowledgeable about Pakistani politics but I admired Benazir Bhutto. Regardless of family background, any woman who becomes a head of government has achieved something remarkable - especially in cultures where to be born a woman is to be born a second class citizen.
She was intelligent, charismatic, and she was brave - she knew her likely fate but continued on her path. She knew the odds but did not refuse the fight ...

And by-the-way, the 'page 49,823!' is a reference to a recurring joke in the newspaper. I think I once had something being on page '4 million' or something. Anyway... Bêthberry's signature intrigues me... Quote:

I can already tell it's going to be a really good New Year
But though this august gathering never actually took place I know enought to understand that Boromir88's grief will be easily controlled regarding Mr Carr's departure ...

Awwww shucks. I must admit though, I didn't come up with it, much as I wish I had. One of my college friends lurks around this site and said it one day. Course it amused me as well, so I figured I must share it with all of you. Hehe. Oh and I am quite taken with Groin's. Must be my height, or rather lack thereof, that makes it amusing to me. Quote:

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet or not, but Brinn's makes me laugh devilishly. Werewolves definately would run Lovett's shop rampant.
I love Sondheim's work, but his Sweeney Todd is the best slice of pie. With that in order, I think I'll order Fop. Not too mealy, or too good, and has some good breeding... ~ Ka
