Recently I have been writting up the family trees of many families from Arda, namely the Noldor, Doriath, Edain, Gondor, Arnor and Arthedain, etc..

All of the first age families lead to Elrond and Elros, The Peredhil. I looked up 'Peredhil' in the Guide and it basically says any Elf-man sort of person.

Does this include Earendil, Elwing, Elurin, Elured, Dior and Luthien aswell as Elrond and Elros.

I would appreciate your thoughts

Thankz guys (and girlz)

And does any1 have any trees of the Teleri, Vanyar, basically anything not in Robert Fosters Complete Guide to ME (not the Noldor, Ive already done that from memory)

The difficulty we face is that the peredhil and their right to choose between being counted as men or elves seems to derive from the decision of the Valar to grant this choice to Elrond and Elros (and apparently Earendil and Elwing). Thus Elrond and his children and Elros (until he chose the fate of Men) were clearly peredhil. Earendil seems to also fit within this category. Luthien apparently does not; she was an Elf granted the "gift" of the Fate of Man as a result of her love for Beren and their actions together. After her choice, she was of mankind. If Luthien was Mannish, then Dior also was. We do not learn the nature of Dior's wife (if I recall) so Elured and Elurin as well as Elwing were either "Men" (but Elwing was ultimately also granted the "choice&quot or peredhil if Dior married an Elf. Similarly, Arwen was a peredhil but, after choosing the Fate of Man, her children with Aragorn were not. The difficulty is that before the Valar gave Elrond and Elros their choice, the nature of Dior and his offspring was unclear.

If I recall correctly, Dior married Nimloth of Doriath (an Elf, apparently). In this case I think that it'd be logical to assume that Dior was counted among the Elven-folk as well.

Re: Family trees: the peredhil

That jogs my memory. Yes, Dior married Nimloth. Thus Elwing and her brothers were half-elven. But Dior's nature remains undetermined. He was born a son of Beren before the Valar granted the peredhil the choice. But also, his mother was Luthien, who was granted the fate of men. Thus both of Dior's parents were of "Mannish" fate. This is one of those debatable areas. Logic dictates that Dior was a Man. Yet...
