This one supplements Quiz #2 at The Barrow-Downs.

Q: What did Sam have that looked like a tall, shapeless felt bag?

Re: Question about Sam Gamgee...

Let's make it a riddle game.

The rules will be:
You can answer a question from memory or look it up...whatever it takes (how could we control how anyone gets their answers anyway?)

First person to get it right (your call, but others may challenge your answer if they feel it is wrong) gets to ask the next question. You must wait for the asker to verify your answer before asking the next question.

If you just can't wait to ask a new question, start a New Topic. We can have more than one riddle game going at once. Just remember to continue any thread you have answered correctly and the asker has verified that your answer is correct (that make any sense)?

NOTE: Questions do not have to be in riddle format. Just ask normal questions (unless you have a good Middle-Earth riddle, of course). But you must know the answer. If you have questions that you want need an answer to or want to discuss, go to THE BOOKS forum.

Oh, btw, the correct answer was HIS HAT. Good one Alan! Your turn!

Re: Beater and Biter ...

Since we are the only registered users of this board so far, I guess it's up to me to answer this one!

Beater and Biter were the goblin names (in Common Speech, of course) for the elven swords Glamdring and Orcrist (or was it Orcrist and Glamdring? <img src=rolleyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"> ).

Re: I'm going to have to start asing harder questions!

Kris, nice to see you back. The Board is starting off kinda slow, huh?

Anyways, the answer is:
(1) Gandalf - Narya, which he got from Cirdan when he (Gandalf)first came to ME
(2) Galadriel - Nenya, she was its one and only owner
(3) Elrond - Vilya, he got it from Gil-Galad

Here's a multi-parter ...

Who founded Brandy Hall, about how many hobbits lived there at the time of the LotR, and where did the founder come from originally?

Re: CLUE 2

Since noobdy guessed, I'll give the answer.

Gorhendad Oldbuck settled Buckland from the Marish. And at the time that Frodo lived in Brandy Hall, there were not less than 200 hobbits living in the place.

Next question:

What was Lugb˙rz?

Re: CLUE 2

Galadriel gets it! WTG!

Your turn to ask.

As for the 200 hobbits, that part was in chapter 1, but I got tired of giving clues. It's in the part where the hobbits are gossiping about how Frodo's parents drowned.
