Tolkien Prince of Mirkwood

I never understood why Tolkien never refered to Legolas as the Prince of Mirkwood. Legolas didn't join the captains when they discussed plans for further battle after the Battle of Pelanor Field. I can only guess that because he never brought any troops of his own he didn't feel he had a right to this meeting, but he was still a prince and was never referred to as one. Elven concepts of royalty, succession, and princes may not have been quite the same as with humans and dwarves. Immortality would do that.
It may be that princes were not usually given much "authority" practice, like going to war councils, because they did not seem to need it.

Not bringing any troops would also be a good reason to exclude somebody from high level planning sessions.

Pipe

Good topic, but I agree with the other posts. Since Legoas's daddy wasn't about to die any time soon, he probably wasn't considered a prince as we'd think of one. Instead of planning wars, he could have fun. Or maybe he felt his place was with Gilmi, or as a member of the Fellowship.
