Forget Jes, he's never around any more. We'll have to decide whether I'm right ourselves, I think. But referencing my answer from the Lost Tales 1, Morwinyon, I think.

As you can tell, Gwaihir isn't a good astronomy student.

I'll ask next: What percentage of the Great Battles of Beleriand were won by the Eldar? This one may take some thinking over.

60% (without counting the War of Wrath)?

Why did you leave out the War of Wrath? I'm afraid you'll have to include that in your reckoning before you can go on.

Assuming the War of Wrath was won by the Eldar (and not just by the Valar), I would make it 66.7%. That said, I'm still not decided as to whether the first battle was a victory or not.

As the armies of Morgoth were totally aniahlated in the first Battle, I'd count it as a victory. 66.7% is fair enough; although the actual answer is something like 66.6 recurring. Ask us!

Athelas

asëa aranion is another name for Athelas/Kingsfoil that Aragorn uses in the Houses of Healing when talking to the herb lore-master.

Hmm. I am quickly running out of questions...I was going to ask about the Gates of Gondolin, but that has been already Ok...this may be a bit tricky, but: Who bore the title of Singollo? e.g. Aragorn bears the title of Elessar, and Ar-Pharazon bears the title of the Golden (as does Glaurung) And what does it mean?

Re: Yup

I'd never want to see Lost Tales dismissed as unimportant. True, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it formed the basis for much of Tolkien's later Middle Earth writings.

As I'm in the mood, I think I'll ask another Lost Tales question.

In the Fall of Gondolin, what were the words that Tuor shouted from the top of the Tower of Turgon?

No, you don't understand, I don't have the book, I took it out from the library like 5 years ago. I don't remember because of the time span and that I was fairly new to Tolkien and I think it is hard reading for anyone who hasn't read Silm. first.

I can remember only one person 'shouting' from the top of the above named Tower , and that was Turgon himself shouting something like Great is the fall of Gondolin first and than Great is the victory of the Noldoli!. But I can't remember Tuor shouting anything

Re: Yup

My mistake. It was Turgon who shouted those words from the tower, not Tuor. Oops

You were quite correct, H-I. Your turn!

Anar Kaluva tielyanna

What does it mean in common speech?

...without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless...

The sun shall shine upon your path. So, almost precise and therefore correct - carry on and welcome back
