It is a cool song, yet nothng compared to Stairway to Heaven. I'm sure a lot of you know that there are a few Led Zepp songs inspired by LotR.
Also crazy German band Blind Guardian have whole albums dedicated to the Silm and Lotr. The songs are very cool, i recomend you lot listen to a few. Its a bit different.

is that the one that is supposed to be told by gollum? Someone said that if you replace the word "baby" with "precious", the whole song makes sooo much more sense!

But yeah, Stairway to Heaven beats it hands down. My dad got his first guitar with that song. he asked for one, and his mum said "But you cant play the guitar" so he picked one up and played that song. So she had to buy him one then. Its "The best song in the world" and has its own "Tribute". If you dont get what i mean, then dont ask.

I worship the ground Blind Guardian walks on. Never before has music touched me in the profound way that their's has. God bless power metal.

PS: I will check out the zepplin song. They are a pretty decent band. And I know if it is about LOTR I will like it.

Zepplin Rules!
Well that's about it... although I have to say that Kashmir rings a much more profound chord in my heart than Stairway to Heaven ever could. The Battle of Evermore takes second place.

The Battle of Evermore:

Queen of Light took her bow,
And then she turned to go.
The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom,
And walked the night alone.

Dance in the dark of night,
Sing to the morning light.
The dark Lord rides in force tonight,
And time will tell us all.

Throw down your plow and hoe,
Rest not to lock your homes.
Side by side we wait the might,
Of the darkest of them all.

I hear the horses' thunder down in the valley below.
I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon,
Waiting for the eastern glow.

The apples of the valley hold,
The seas of happiness.
The ground is rich from tender care,
Repay do not forget.

Dance in the dark of night,
Ssing to the morning light.
The apples turn to brown and black,
The tyrant's face is red.

Oh the war is common cry,
Pick up you swords and fly.
The sky is filled with good and bad,
That mortals never know.

Oh well the night is long the beads of time pass slow.
Tired eyes on the sunrise,
Waiting for the eastern glow.

The pain of war cannot exceed,
The woe of aftermath.
The drums will shake the castle wall,
The ring wraiths ride in black.

Sing as you raise your bow,
Shoot straighter than before.
No comfort has the fire at night,
That lights the face so cold.

Dance in the dark of night,
Sing to the morning light.
The magic runes are writ in gold,
To bring the balance back.

At last the sun is shining,
The clouds of blue roll by.
With flames from the dragon of darkness,
The sunlight blinds his eyes.

Led Zeppelin songs have some references to Middle-earth. I think that they're an alright band. I used to like them more, but now I'm more settled on what bands I like and the ones I really like. My favorite zepellin song is Kashmir, and the one I hate the most is Rock and Roll, and I hold Cadillac responsible.

What kind of sense does basing your musical (dis)tastes on the songs used by advertisements?

Anyway, the Battle of Evermore doesn't appear to be specifically about Pelennor Fields. The lyrics are just inspired by Middle-earth. Someone mentioned that there are quite a few Zeppelin songs inspired by Middle-earth. There aren't, though, really - there are a few that make allusions to Middle-earth, but I'd hardly call it inspiration. The songs would've been written, with or without the allusions.

How can we know whether or not those songs where inspired by Middle-earth? You need to ask the writer to know that. Sometimes, even the writer doesnt know what inspired him.

My Dad and I think 'Evermore' sounds more like the battle of Helms' Deep.
I like Kashmir too, the guitar riff at the end of the Matrix reminds me of it.

I like this song by Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant's voice is amazing.

But I like Blind Guardian even before. Any of you guys here registered in www.blind-guardian.com?

Yep. The Battle of Evermore is awesome. Along with Ramble On, Misty Mountain Hop, and Stairway to Heaven. All make several allusions to Tolkien. They are one of my favorite bands. There's nothing quite like rocking out to Led, is there?

Led Zeppelin's become one of my favorite bands, just because there are a lot of Tolkien allusions in there. I think Battle of Evermore is just about my favorite song, with Stairway to Heaven coming in a close second.

The books must have inspired them at some point, maybe not for the whole song, but for bits and pieces of it. They sing about he Dark Lord, Misty Mountains etc...

I know Page was in love with all these fantasy things, Lotr, that santanist Crowley guy. And you cannot like something this much without it having some effect on your life.

Loved that song. Big fan of Led, and especially Kashmir. It's all beautiful. They do have many ME/fantasy-inspired songs. I never thought the Battle of Evermore to be about anything more than a fantasy battle, though.

And Ramble On is the song with 'In the deepest depths of Mordor,' and then 'Gollum and the Evil One.' Never heard that about replacing 'precious' in it. Thanks!
