Elven Lineages - The Barrow-Downs Discussion Forum

Lately I've been trying to find some elvish family trees. Does anyone have any elven lineages for some Rivendel Elves? Such as
1.Galdor
2.Lindir
3.Erestor
I havn't been able to find much info on these fellas. Can yall help me out here?

The House of the Golden Flower, one of the Houses of Gondolin. He's the same Glorfindel as the one in the Silmarillion, reincarnated.

Such faith! Truly magnificent undertaking that it is, I took your advice and couldn't find Lindir there (the Elf that Bilbo snorted at).

As for Glorfindel, the element fin in his name is some circumstantial evidence that he was descended from Fingolfin or Finarfin, as the names given by Elven fathers to their sons tended to echoe their own. Also, the only golden-haired Noldor were of the houses of Fingolfin or Finarfin. But I won't go into the hair genetics thing, since I got a bit conflustered on another thread about Legolas.

Lindir is mentioned all of one time in the books. The folks at the Encyclopedia add entries in order of number of times someone/thing appears. The time he talks to Bilbo is the only time he appears, period. No other information is given.

Also, Fingolfin's house did not have the light hair that Finarfin's did.

Incidentally, I've always thought of Lindir as the most annoying, conceited, arrogant elf-centered elf on record, all because of his few recorded snooty comments (which never fail to set my teeth on edge.) "Snob! Elitist!" I cry, shaking my fist.

But actually he may have been a very nice elf. How strongly a few stray sentences can determine one's reputation down through the ages!

Oh, no another Elf hair discussion. I'm pretty sure that Fingolfin's house had golden hair in it somewhere, even if the Elf himself didn't. His mother had golden hair, remember, and from what I've been told on the Legolas hair thread, this means golden hair could randomly pop up at any time.

Isn't it more likely that Glorfindel was descended from Fingolfin than Finarfin, given that he was a noble Elf of Gondolin, where Turgon ruled? I think if he was of Finarfin's house he would be more likely to turn up in Nargothrond.

From the appendix of The Silmarillion:

Alone among the Noldorin princes he [Finarfin] and his descendants had golden hair, derived from his mother Indis, who was a Vanyarin Elf.

Of Fingolfin's house, only Idril Celebrindal, Turgon's daughter had golden hair, and, given the quote above, she must have received it from her mother, Elenwë.

Besides, all of the lines of the House of Fingolfin are complete - they ended with Gil-galad, Eldarion and his sisters, Elrohir, Elladan, and Maeglin. I don't see anywhere for him to fit in. He was the Chief of his own house, Chief of Gondolin’s House of the Golden Flower. Given that he slew a balrog and died himself at the time of the Fall of Gondolin (510 FA), he was probably born sometime between Fingolfin himself (perhaps before) and Maeglin's birth in 320 FA to be old enough to accomplish such a feat. The family tree looks quite complete.

The Encyclopedia of Arda asserts that it's possible too, but I don't see how.
