Hey! cellos kinda fascinate me too! And I also consider learning to play one a goal as well!

I also play the violin, but I have to put it up for repairs *wipes tears*

Rae: Hmm. Mother in law. I'm sure she loves you...in her own little way

Joy: Doesn't Frank Peretti have a new book series out? Have you read them ? They any good? I found "The Prophet" to be a great book.

evil scales...
Yes, I hate scales and theory. They're the reason I quit piano at grade 7. I want to play cello, but I'm doing too much other stuff right now, and I really have to work on my French horn if I want to play in my town's orchestra next year. Also, the only person who teaches cello (my best friend's dad, and the person I said I admire) is a very scary teacher. I'm sure I'd start crying before every lesson.... The "really big ones" are basses.

Ithaeliel, there is a small error in your last post. What you meant to say was:

FRENCH HORN PLAYERS AND CELLISTS RULE THE WORLD!

Just thought I'd mention that.

Edit: French hornists..? French horn players..? Help...?

Anyone play the oboe? It is the most horribly, stupid instument on earth and sometimes I just like to throw it at the wall, and make large, lovely scratches and...Ok, I'll stop now.

I played the clarinet from 5th to 8th grade. I was good at it, but my mom sold it at our last garage sale for $100. I always said it sounded like a dying cow.

I "play" the flute,(and I use the word in the loosest sense imaginable) I have a playing test on Thursday that I'm going to fail, and I'm thinking of planting a bomb in my flute case and giving it to my band teacher. Ok, enough ranting on how dumb the flute is.

Fave store: I perceive the mind as a valuable store.

Gah...gotta hate my 1st one...let me do this again.

Name (that you go by): Rachel
Age: 15
Occupation: student
Future Aspirations: well, I want to be an actress, but I may have to settle for fashion designer
Goal in life: to be happy, of course
Short term goals: getting through this school year
Passion: love
Hobbies: singing, drawing, horseback riding, piano playing, acting, writing, coming on here, reading
Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): still getting hit on by 25-year old guys...sadly...

Fave book: to be honest, now I do not really have one
Fave movie: so many: "2 Days in the Valley", "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings", "Pulp Fiction", "High Fidelity", and many more comedies...
Fave sport: to do: horseback riding; to watch: baseball...and tennis is getting up there because of Andy Roddick...
Fave store: Awakenings...or Crystal Cove...or that other store...I forget what it's called
Fave music: I don't really have one...Enya and Linkin Park...and *flinches* I did order the new Nick Carter CD: I just have to see what he sounds like alone.

What you can't stand: people who lie to make others think more of them
What you plain dislike: men who cannot get the nerve to say "hi" back when they've obviously been staring at you
Who you admire: anyone out there who works hard and does not get enough credit...and Christina Aguilera for not caring what people think about her
What you most love to do: dream, to be honest
Your self-confessed flaws: I'm a narcissist and somewhat obssessive...
What intrigues/fascinates you: times of romance...and love in general
What scares you: fire, guns, biological warfare, me dying before experiencing true love
Quotation to live by:
"All you need is love."
---John Lennon

"It takes a little time sometimes
To get your feet back on the ground
It takes a little time sometimes
To get the Titanic turned back around."

"Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear,
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come."
--Julius Caesar in "Julius Caesar"

"Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs;
Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers' eyes;
Being vexed, a sea nourished with loveing tears.
What is it else? A madness most discreet,
A choking gall, and a preserving sweet."
--Romeo Montague in "Romeo And Juliet"

"Work like you have never been tired
Love like you have never been hurt
And dance like no one is watching."

Additional comments:
If love is but a dream, then, when in love, may I never wake.

If life is but a vision and there is more, then let more come when it comes, for I will welcome it with open arms.

You only need to do two things in this life: love and breath. Do most as intensely and as often as you can.

Follow what your heart desires...unless it desires to become a cannibal, ripping out and destroying hearts around you.

Ooh la la, Rimbaud, I wonder: what is your take on perception itself if you try to perceive through a thick haze of, um, "pipeweed" smoke?

Vanima, babe, I really dig the quotes you put up. And John Lennon has it right, he really does. But even he himself has said that the song is an over-simplification. Then again, maybe he is too harsh of a judge on himself.

Frieda, you MUST find a quotation to live by. Otherwise, it will find you!

Galadrie1, French horn players are pretty cool, too.

And now for some puns that only a string player or symphony member would get!

Q:What's the difference in size between a violin and a viola?
A: No difference, just the violin(ist)'s head is bigger.

Q: What does the average bassist get on an I.Q. test?
A: Drool

Q: Why does a director only take 15-minute breaks at rehearsals?
A: So he doesn't have to retune his entire cello section.

Hehe... lame to some, but 'some' I am not!

Not for me, though. It seems that the group ran out of names by the time they realized that I didn't have one yet.

As for the jokes, they're not exactly original. I remember our clinic conducter telling those!

Not that I mind, though. But you did leave out the violas. So here's one:

Q: What's the difference between an accomplished viola player and a professional viola player?

A: An accomplished viola player doesn't exist. (Ok, I hope no viola players take offense)

Hee hee, those jokes are good (though kind of stupid... but that's the point of jokes ). Once someone told me a whole ton of symphony jokes (so many I was screaming at them to stop) but I can't remember any of them! Hmm.... If I remember any I'll post them.

As for the jokes, they're not exactly original. I remember our clinic conducter telling those
That's where I got them, though! And yours was from someone else who I can't think of right now!

I believe the viola joke is from either a former orchestra teacher or some other orchestranian who was trying to tease a certain viola player.

Teasing viola players?!
WHO dares tease a viola player? We have enough talent to be the entire orhcetra's inner voice.

I may be retired, but once a viola player always a viola player!

Or a musician for that matter.... Musicians teasing musicians, that's terrible (even when I see it happening between trumpets and clarinets everytime. Those darn trumpetplayers think they're so good, while we have to wait for them to do the practicing they didn't do at home.. )

Name (that you go by): Isilya; Emmabug; Emmabean; Bean; Emma, Queen of the Yukon; yukonqueen

Age: 16 on Communist Worker’s Day (May 1st)

Occupation: Student by day, Elven Bounty Hunter by night.

Future Aspirations: Attend a good university (McGill, Queens), get a bad @ss job.

Goal in life: To be loved, deeply and truly.

Short term goals: Pass math, make the rowing team

Passion: Books, LOTR, Henry Cavill (mmm mmm good!), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and soccer

Hobbies: Poking fun at my sister, reading, and trying to emancipate myself from my parents

Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): I’m the goalkeeper for my high school’s varsity soccer team, I’ve won numerous awards for French, and winning every argument I’m in (except those with my parents)

Fave book: It really is fairly pointless to ask me that. I go through two books a week. Right now, I’m reading the Fionavar Tapestry trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay. Other favorite books include:
Crazy for Cornelia
The Crystal Cave Trilogy
The Alienist
To Dance at The Palais Royale
The Princess Bride
Cold Sassy Tree

Any Calvin and Hobbes book
Any Foxtrot book
The BFG
The Tattooed Potato and Other Mysteries
Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes
The Return of the King
The Silmarillion
The Prince
And the list goes on.

Fave movie: This one is a tough choice. I’d have to say either LOTR: FOTR, or Princess Mononoke, or Beauty and the Beast, or The Matrix, or The Count of Monte Cristo.

Fave sport: Soccer and Rowing

Fave store: Chapters

Fave music: My list for this is even longer than my book list.
Bach
Coldplay
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones

Norah Jones
Willie Nelson
Andrew Lloyd Webber
Nina Simone
The Beatles
Like any true Canadian: The Tragically Hip
Eric Clapton
Fastball
Matchbox 20
Howard Shore
Fine Young Cannibals
U2
Disney Music
Great Big Sea
Crambo. If you haven’t heard of them, I can’t blame you
Goo Goo Dolls
Louis Armstrong
George Harrison
Zebda
Radiohead
REM
The Muppets
The Guess Who
Credence Clearwater Revival
Queen
Chemical Brothers
War
No Doubt
Steppenwolf
Led Zeppelin

What you can't stand: Evil and Mean people, People who don’t tolerate differences

What you plain dislike: Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Essays, Romance Novels, the Water Temple in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Bad Spellers

Who you admire: Tigger. He’s the only one!

What you most love to do: Read and listen to music

Your self-confessed flaws: Procrastination. Terrible Procrastination.

What intrigues/fascinates you: The possibility that there might actually be other worlds out there.

What scares you: Spiders, snakes, and Sheep eyes

Quotation to live by: At 15, I’ve found that the true meaning of life isn’t how much money you have, or what clothes you wear, it’s how far you can get while playing Chubby Bunny and not choke.

I'm sorry! I'm sorry! But...while Tolkien is my favorite author, I also greatly enjoy many other authors as well!

Lush I like your signature quote. I love Enya...and have every one of her CD's. My favorite song is probably...either "Book of Days" or "Storms in Africa II".

Isilya, your fave music list looks like the combined cd collection of me and brother!

Coldplay! woohoo!

Just an observation Vanima. I have a hard time listing my favorites, too.

Finally!! Someone else that actually likes Coldplay!! All my friends and family make fun of me for it, but I say "screw them! I'll listen to whatever the hell I like!" I still have to go out and buy their new CD though. I have a couple of the tracks on my Kazaa, and it sounds even better than the last album!!
