Holidays - Lord of the Rings Style
Have you, or ever planned on celebrating holidays with the theme of Lord of the Rings in mind? This topic is for any holiday; Halloween (dress up like a Ringwraith and demand The One Candy Corn), Valentine's Day (getting shot by Haldir's arrow of love... drat, I'm scaring myself!), and anything else you would like. And, most of all, have you ever annoyed or frightened anyone with it?
(Moderators - feel free to delete this topic if it does not belong.)

Or sitting on Gimliclaus's lap (they work at separate Sears), pulling his beard and him yelling, "Not the beard!" ~ While his little elf, Legolas, dances around singing about the sea and shooting candy canes at the children. Seriously, I am dressing up as an elf for halloween. |

I'm dressing as an Elf for Halloween. But one problem is, I can't find a good costume. I'm not good at sewing, and my mom won't let me go out and get all of the stuff to MAKE fake ears. So, does anyone know of any places not online that I could find Elf ears? I think I know where to go to get an actual costume.

You can get elf ear tips at any costume and makeup shop. You just have to know how to use spirit gum, liquid latex, and the right makeup shading techniques...
Any other thoughts on the original purpose of this post? |

Spirit gum - DON'T GET IT IN YOUR HAIR!
I think that Valentine's Day would be interesting - if I ever get an LOTR enjoying boyfriend, we'll dress up as Beren and Luthien or Aragorn and Arwen. And Legolas IS the Easter Bunny.

I'm terrible with costumes and such, so I'm dressing all in black and being a burglar. My mother suggested just not going out for Halloween at all, but, honestly, who can resist free candy?!
As for the original purpose of this thread: I have no ideas at all Spirit gum is evil.

I was a brother in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and I had a spirit gummed mustache and full beard. I think I still have the bald spot from where it got in my hair.
I ended up leading a rebellion against our tyrannical director so that we wouldn't have to wear our evil beards.

I'm going to be a hobbit. I have no idea how I'm going to do it as I've never sown anything in my life.
I'll just get some old fashon dress and tacky looking ears..and OMG! How do I do the feet??

Well, Rose Cotton, perhaps you can beg Peter Jackson for some of those prosthetic feet Elijah used.
I myself am going to be a Ringwraith for Halloween. I've seen a Ringwraith costume in a picture of a page of a catalog, and I must say that it looks utterly cheap and unconvincing. So, I will make it myself. Now, where's the 44 meters of black cloth and scissors? For a few other effects, I shall practice my Nazgűl screeching (although I am certain my neighbors will not appreciate it) and perhaps borrow a horse. Nay, a horse would be too big for my small body. Perhaps a dark-brown or black pony. But then they might think I was a Hobbit-wraith.. [ October 05, 2002: Message edited by: The Fifth ]

Ahem *Smiles proudly* I looked online and found out how to make the ears. It seems complacated but it may work.
Heres the link: http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Article/Ears.htm I'm gonna go see on what they mean by "Elvish face" I allready got the eyes Quote:

Well I'll just go and state the obvious...dress up like Gandalf and set off fireworks on the 4th of July (that's independence day for us Americans.) Not that I'd ever do that for real...but this is Middle-earth Mayhem.

Excellent, Diamond18! Actually, I don't think it was that obvious, but I am glad you brought it up. I would love to see someone do that

Or on bonfire night in England you could leap into the bonfire and become a balrog... not a recommendation...

Diamond18, Alatariel... those are to funny!
Being another American, I'm not sure about having hobbits come to Thanksgiving though. My food budget would go through the roof. Although it would be fun to see how much they can pack it in. [ October 05, 2002: Message edited by: hobbitlass ]

hobbitlass, you'd be surprised by the amount of food a hobbit can eat.. but inviting over 10 hobbits?
What a splendid idea for July 4th. Perhaps I can convince my brother to die his hair grey, get a fake beard, dress up in robes and a point hat, and start fireworks. (Just not the Smaug firework.. shudder..) [ October 05, 2002: Message edited by: The Fifth ]

Since you all like my Gandalf/4th of July idea, here's a variation:
Get a friend, dress up like Merry and Pippin, steal fireworks from whomever is dressing up like Gandalf, and then set them off inside a tent...

* a Cloaked Guest enters, wreathed in the aromatic smoke of Longbottom Leaf *
Hail The Fifth: Happy Birthday to my favorite wraith! So tell me, what sort of mathoms do Ring Wraiths give out on their birthday? Ponder it well, and meanwhile you can listen to a little song I've penned in your honor: Happy Birthday to you Though you're undead it's true With your years stretched and thinning All because of a ring. Happy Birthday dear Fifth Through long ages you drift As a dark spooky horseman Noisesome screeches you lift. Happy Birthday wraith-foe Safe to Mordor now go On your birthday, you I won't slay Though Glamdring bright glow. ... and of course, here are your birthday fireworks: * bows, extends hand for a friendly handshake * Gandalf the Grey |

ok how about if u celebrate Haunnika (sp?) (i don't by the way or else i would) dress up as Sam and grab the manora (sp?) on the last day when all the candles are lit and run in the room where the most family is, yelling "Let him go, or I'll have you longshanks!"
(you could convince an adult (tall) to be Aragorn and a cousin or sumone younger to be Frodo (short) and you could put a terified face on your mean aunt or stuck-up "friend-of-the-family".) wow that would be kinda funny to think about doing! Oh my, thank you Gandalf! To-day I am 7,321 years old, well, actually, yesterday. Thank you! * shakes hand * And as for the fireworks:
* stares at pretty fireworks * Now, back on topic. On Saint Patrick's day, you can dress up like Tom Bombadil, and instead of pinching people not wearing green, you kick them in the bum with your yellow boots. Then run away from impending pinch-attacks. [ October 13, 2002: Message edited by: The Fifth ]

*thinks about Legolas dressed up as the Easter Bunny...* Mmmmm... Sunggly wuggly..."
Sorry, I'm not usually a Leggy person, but that was way too good to pass up... Back to topic...For April Fool's day, I guess you could greet people with "Fool of a Took!!!!"... It is weak, I know, but I'm really tired and my little sis is reading over my shoulder...

I realize that this post is perhaps more than a bit sacriligeous, but don't you find Gandalf's fall in the Mines of Moria oddly similar to Jesus' death and later resurrection? I just felt that someone had to say it. (Mabye I shouldn't have, considering I'm a Pastor's kid.)

Indeed, they are similar. But not so similar that I completely agree with you on that one. . .'cept for the "rising from the dead" thing (though Gandalf was never dead). Anyway, I know what I'm going to do for NEXT year's Halloween, and most of the time I *ahem* UNINTENTIONALLY dress like and elf. My friend Eric (who saw the LOTR after I did) has always said I look like an elf. Now THAT's something! If you hear THAT you know you've been complemented!
