Hello!

The character called Radagast. I don't know much about him, was he evil? Can i read about him in another book or is he just in the first book? And was he a wizard?

Re: Radagast?

Radagast wasn't evil, but he failed at his task just like all the other Istari excluding Gandalf. The Istari were known as wizards, Radagast was one of them. Not much is mentioned of Radagast other than in LotR a little is in UT. That is about it unless there is an entry in HoME. Gandalf didn't really use magic, and what he did use was very little, since he was not permitted to reveal his true power. The Valar forbade it. But I am assuming that he faught like all good maiar and elves would with will power. I guess I am basing this on Silm. when Sauron and Finrod went at it.

Re: Radagast?

Not evil,but a simple bird-tamer. <img src=grin.gif ALT=">D">

Heh... this is a really old thread...

Quote:
Indeed, of all the Istari, one only remained faithful, and he was the last-comer. For Radagast, the fourth, became enamoured of the many beasts and birds that dwelt in Middle-earth, and forsook Elves and Men, and spent his days among the wild creatures. Thus he got his name (which is in the tongue of Numenor of old, and signifies, it is said, "tender of beasts").

Radagast was one of a group of Istari (wizards) who came to Middle-Earth. Curunir was their leader and Mithrandir (Gandalf)and Radagast were following behind. Curunir went most among men and Radagast was a friend of beasts and birds and Gandalf was closest in Council with Elrond and the Elves. Hope that helps.

I wish Ragagast had a little bit more of a part in the Lotr saga,he's mysterious becouse he does'nt really have much at all to do in the books,And i think seeing as Gandalf the Gray became Gandlf the white,I think Radagast shouid have became Radagast the grey..well maybe not but it's a good idea

I don't recall there being a heirarchy of colors among the wizards. Only that of white which signified the highest status and power.

I really don't think Radagast failed in his mission. He was sent by Yavanna for a reason, and maybe it was to look after the Kelvar and Olvar of M-E.

Thumbs up

I too wish we would have learned more about Radagast, maybe if Tolkien had lived longer he would have wrote a story just about him.

Mayeb if Tolkien was a Elf then he could tell us everything we wanted about M-E. No more 'Who is Tom Bombadil threads' or what not.
