Ring Young Frodo?
I am new to this site and am hoping I am wrong about this. But have gotten
the impression that the movie portray Frodo as young, around the same
age as his Hobbit companions. Since he is supposed to be, what, 50?,
when they set off for Rivendell, after living many years under the
influence of the ring, how could this possibly work? Please reassure me it's
not so.

well um...

I think maybe that Frodo will be the same age as Merry Pippin and Sam or near there,It's probabl that he will be a tad older then the others but not by much. I have read a copmlaint article about how Merry Pippin and Sam are the same age in the party scene as when they go on the quest so I guess we can conclude that Frodo will be 33,34,35 when he goes on the quest, but frankly I dont care about ages. The public wont have any idea of how old Frodo is,just that he's young LOOKING.Anyway does'nt it seem that 50 is a bit old to be trappsing off on a wild adventure?I mean today it is and the public I dont think would be able to comprhend that 50 is like 30 to Hobbits.
Oh and welcome to the wackiest forum on the net,(not to mention the most haunted ooooooooooo )
Sam1

Seems to me we had this discussion in another thread, but I can't remember where!

I seem to recall that Frodo is a bit older than the others. But he might wind up looking even younger because of the preservative power of the Ring!

...and Frodo didn't have much choice but to go adventuring, lest a worse adventure finally befall him at home...

Barrow-Downs~Bare Bones~Tar Ost-in-Eruhir~Grand Adventures~The Hobbits~Tolkien Trail

no problem there

Quote:
As time went on, people began to notice that Frodo also showed signs of good ‘preservation’: outwardly he retained the appearance of a robust and energetic hobbit just out of his tweens
LoTR, ch 2 Shadows of the Past

so there is no problem in him being 50, looking as young as even Pippin, who's 28/29 in the story, if I am not mistaken
+ hobbits lived to a greater age (appr 100) then we do, so 50 was not at all old for them, but around what we count as 30-40
GeorgeLashkhi

Don't tell me you are that ignorant!! The Ring preserves the life if its owner. They do not change physically. Bilbo was 111, but he didn't look a day over 50. Frodo was 50, but didn't look a day over 33, and hobbits age differently than humans.
In the books, Frodo is 50, Sam is 35, Merry is 33, and Pippin is 28 (not considered fully "of age")
[ May 08, 2002: Message edited by: Frodo Baggins ]

Yes, Frodo, you are correct about the ages.
Bilbo was 50 when he went on his big journey as well.
The ring preserves a youthful appearance on its bearer, so it's only natural that Frodo would look young at the age of 50.
Plus, I could go into my whole theory thing again about Hobbits' aging, but that's on another thread, so I will only post it here if you want to hear it.
