He's Alfred Graham Caedmon. Alfred because its Anglo Saxon & means Elf-counsel, Graham for family reasons & Caedmon was the earliest English poet we have a name for & because of his connection with Whitby, one of our (& Tolkien's, apparently) favourite places.

They're naming their boy Findulias?
Lol. No. I was just signing my name, as I was on Folwrens account. She didn't sign out, and I was tired so I didn't. Sorry for the confusing you.

Impressive name, Davem.

Though I don't know the exact meaning and of course both known bearers were female, I don't think there is a reason why Finduilas couldn't be a boys name - Fin appears in many male elf names , then we have Thranduil and Legolas ... far less odd than David Cameron calling his son "Elwen".

You do have a point. But it's kind of like Leslie being a name for both genders. I think it sounds like a girl name, but obviosly not everyone agrees. The problem is, once anyone read the Silm. it would always be a girl name to them, so it wouldn't work.

Yeah, probably when he's like 90 and is toothless once again.

Cool! I'd not thought of that!
