There are a number of artists who have recorded homages to Middle earth throughout the years.

They range from intsrumental to easy listening to rock to death metal.

A particular favorite of mine is Blind Guardian: Nightfall in Middle-earth.
Bo Hassom has some interesting stuff also.
You can find some earlier stuff regarding ME from Rush (The Necromancer, Rivendell, etc.) and the well known Lez Zeppelin insertions.

This of course does not include the many artists placing music on the net, or other veins of presentation.
If you wish to have an interesting look at an old homage, try Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner's rendition: &quot;The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins&quot;. It's Amusing. Perhaps I'll post the lyrics here if its seriously requested.

'Lothlorien' by Enya has nothing to do with Lothlorien in ME, apart from the fact that it's a kind of 'natural' themed song -- just like all her others.

'Ngihtfall in Middle-Earth'? I'd like to hear it. Does anyone have it on MP3 or something so I can listen to it?

Big hint for future reference: please set your TCP settings at 0 instead of the magical number of 6688, 6697, or 6699 (whichever comes up). These settings cause problems with uploading. People tend to git a bit irritated when your settings are incorrect (assuming you have something they want).

I'm in the middle of ripping the Caedmon set (personal use...).

CU back then (Early 80's IIRC) made old Sabbath seem like top 40's (but then so did very early Queensryche, so that's not saying much, [remember the mini-LP?]).

Summoning is alright. Think they're classed as Death Metal more than Metal (general).

From the discussion; groups associated with Tolkien are easily discovered (a return to the question sortof).
This has been mostly restrained in the metal field in this discussion, but has larger branches in other genres more 'popular'.

A return to Yngwe for a sec... c'mon... can you really think of a more contemplative song (for the time) than Hiroshima mon amour? But now... does anyone even know where Mr. Malmsteen is? (I do... but n/m you wouldn't believe me if I told you).

I've downloaded all those songs; I like them very much. (Not off Napster, of course; they're ripping musicians off. I got them from MP3.com.) Though no band has sung these songs, if you go to http://www.planet-tolkien.comwww.planet-tolkien.com</a>then there are some MP3's of Frodo's 'The Man in the Moon' song and such.

You could also go to alt.binaries.sounds.mp3 or other variations for stuff.

But those are other alternatives.

In which case you should probably avoid alt.binaries.e-books for those .txt copies of books eh?

You remind me of a dude who IM'ed me while on napster... claiming as moral choice to not download more than one song as it would be considered pirating and would affect his conscience (who subsequently downloaded my entire Star Wars Phantom Menace Ultimate Edition).

Give us a break about Napster. The recordable cassette didn't crash the industry and neither will Napster.

Indeed you did! And I will do what I was supposed to do - address the topic. I've heard the CD version of the reading of the LotR, but I've not heard any of the dramitization.

I've only listened to a couple songs from Blind Guardian and didn't really care for it. And I've heard a few other Tolkien-inspired songs at various locations around the internet.... some were ok, some were not... but none thrilled me much. Maybe I should give another listen one of these days.

Well if you're interested in the dramas... then i'll put them back into my library for you (or anyone else for that matter).

Same for the unabridged recordings.

The Silmarillion stays out, sorry but my HDD is already too full to bring that back (along with everything else).

There is some interesting Tolkien Music by Patrice.
24? Tracks... available only through internet AFAIK.
Perhaps this is what you were referring to.

Some of the most readily available instrumental Tolkien inspired music is by Bo Hanssom and Johan de Meij.

Music-wise (concerning Tolkien) I only currently have the original score for the Bakshi LOTR movie [18 tracks at 160kbs] if anyone is interested (I dumped everything else - they didn't go with my current library theme [heh]) and why the dramas and unabridged stuff and all the other non-compatible items are moved out ATM.

One of my little surprises is the complete original radio broadcast of Orson Welles' 1938 Mercury Theater War of the Worlds.

I read somewhere that Enya did write Lothlorien based on the place in ME. I love the composition and I think that it is most suited as the sountrack for Lothlorien. As for Enya's Memory of Trees, I like to think of that as the soundtack of Caras Galadhon.
