Question New Quote Continued

Since the previous "New Quote" thread is closed due to length limit, I'm reposting several of the last answers and will repost the last question by the end of the post

Quote:
Beware of yourself, lest it be ill

GandaIf The White

I dont know. But I will guess that it was Gandalf talking to Aragorn.
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends

------------------------------------------------------------
HerenIstarion

nay, it was just a bit (several thousand years ) earlier

------------------------------------------------------------
amyrlis

Sounds like a quote that would be directed to Feanor, but I know no more.

------------------------------------------------------------

HerenIstarion

almost there...
but hitting ten not
And the quesiton so puzzling was:

Quote:
Beware of yourself, lest it be ill
Let's continue

I think we need Falmar on this one.

Listen! the mighty Being is awake / And doth with his eternal motion make / A sound like thunder--everlastingly.</p>

How about a hint, like what book is it from? The Silm?

I have never read Unfinished Tales, but it sounds like something Manwe would say to Feanor or perhaps to one of the kings of Numenor.

It was said far from the sea, before ever a mortal reached it's shores

...and he passeth through...

More than two months passed since the quote was given, and no answer found. so I count myself victorious, and reveal the answer. I'll give the whole passage, so to make it clearer:

Quote:
But Túrin said:'Beyond the marches of Doriath my heart urges me; I long rather for assault upon the Enemy, than for defence of the borderlands'

'Then you must go alone, said Thingol. 'The part of my people in the war with Angband I rule according to my wisdom, Túrin son of Húrin. No force of the arms of Doriath will I send out at this time; nor in any time that I can yet foresee'

'Yet you are free to go as you will, son of Morwen' said Melian. 'The Girdle of Melian does not hinder the going of those that passed in with our leave'

Unless wise counsel will restrain you, said Thingol.
What is your counsel, lord? said Túrin.
'A Man you seem in stature,' Thingol answered, 'but nonetheless you have not come to the fullness of your manhood that shall be. When that time comes, then, maybe, you can remember your kin; but there is little hope that one Man alone can do more against the Dark Lord than to aid the Elf-lords in their defence, as long as that may last'

Then Túrin said: 'Beren my kinsman did more'
'Beren, and Lúthien' said Melian. 'But you are over-bold to speak so to the father of Lúthien. Not so high is your destiny, I think, Túrin son of Morwen, though your fate is twined with that of the Elven-folk, for good or for ill. Beware of yourself, lest it be ill.'

Then after a silence she spoke to him again, saying: 'Go now, fosterson; and heed the counsel of the king. Yet I do not think that you will long abide with us in Doriath after the coming of manhood. If in days to come you remember the words of Melian, it will be for your good: fear both the heat and the cold of your heart.

All right: here's a good quote for you all to try to solve: Who said the following:

"You are too hard now to slap!"

Have at it!

"'Hold it up!' said Gandalf. 'And look closely.'
As Frodo did so, he now saw fine lines, finer than the finest pen-strokes, running along the ring, outside and inside: lines of fire that seemed to form the letters of a flowing script. They shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth.
'I cannot read the fiery letters,' said Frodo in a quavering voice.
'No,' said Gandalf, 'but I can. The letters are Elvish, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Mordor, which I will not utter here. But this in the Common Tongue is what is said, close enough:
One Ring to Bring them all and in the darkness bind them.'"

Pipe

That would be Bilbo son of Bungo to Frodo son of Drogo in Imladris after Bilbo had graciously loaned the latter his mithril corslet.
