Sting Lighting a match???

I was talking with a friend when the opening of the fellowship and something dawned on me.
When Merry and Pippin were in the tent with the dragon firework, how did they know that you had to "light" it first? I thought they view the fireworks were magical.
My question, did Pip and Merry light the dragon or was that a minor mistake?

I think that they did light it. In the movie, most of the people watching it would nkow that you had to light it, so it wouldn't make sence if it just went up. They made it seem like majic with the dragon, I don't think that even with our technology we can do that.

I suppose my question is whether Pippin and Merry would think to light the firework? Here and now, we don't even think twice to know that you need to light a firework.

in the filmyou can see that gandalf uses both magic and fire to set off the fireworks. wen he first arrives in hobbington, and the lil hobbit children follow him he uses magic to set off the little birdy fireworks yet at the party he uses his staff to light them

Ya, I guess we half to assume that Merry and Pippin saw Gandalf lighting a firework and decided to try it out themselves.

Gandalf lights them aswell, he just uses his staff, the thing magical about them is what happens when they explode..
