The first Marshall of the Mark was the king, which would have been Eomer- if he had a son Eomer would have been regent and not king...(?)

It was common in Rohan to name the oldest son of the king first Marshel, but only when the ruling king was not fil to bear arms... as was the case of Therdred and Theoden...
