What are Hobbits because all the other races our explained as where they came from but not hobbits. If they are an ofshoot of the race of men then how come they became as they did.

Folks, please excuse Kate. She occasionally struggles with an Eru-complex. Rest assured, we are working with her on a regular basis.

Gravity. Maybe it is stronger in the Shire. After all, Lewis's aliens from Venus were tall and thin-limbed on account of the low gravity.

Oh, I thought of another possibility! Perhaps young hobbits are wrapped tightly in constricting garments for several years to stunt their growth.

I personally believe hobbits were a creation of eru, put there spesificaly to amuse, help, and save the wiser more knowledgeable people of middle earth in times of crisis.

Hobbits sole purpose is to teach wizards the meaning of the word "unquenchable" and to correct them. onewhitetree of course, is the one who created them. Well done.

Tolkien

Hobbits were created in the First Age according to the guide to Middle Earth.
Hobbits love song , stories, the easy life and food. they don't get involved in the affairs of the outside world ( with the exception of the 5 famous hobbits).
Tom Bombadil, eldest, loves to sing and dance and be jolly, doesn't get involved in the affairs of the outside world.

Tom Bombadil created the hobbits!

I'm glad you're joking. The idea that Tom is Eru has been seriously proposed before.
