Between Carn Dum and Isengard, how many ways are there over the Misty Mountains? Just ways that men could manage -- stone giants and eagles might have many choices but they are outside the bounds of the inquiry.

Nigh to Mount gundabad, the mountains are very small. It looks like one could cross there. THen going down... aggain they become small just over the High Pass, then the High Pass itself -- wasn't the High Pass infested with Orcs? Oh well, I'll include it. Journeying through Khazad-Dum would get you through, but that's under, not over.3 so far... The Redhorn Gate, making 4, low mountains near Eregion, and the Gladden River, 6, Then no more until the Wizards vale itself. That makes six, or seven if you include the Wizard's Vale. How about it?

<img src="http://www.barrowdowns.com/images/posticons/redeye.jpg" align=absmiddle> Re: MIstari

Now I regret asking this question without having first looked it up. I was basing it on the conversation following the failure of the fellowship to pass the Redhorn Gate/Dimrill Dale route. Gandalf's reply to Boromir suggests that the only remaining options were Moria or the Gap of Isengard (and ruling out the latter). And of course there was the high pass east of Rivendell. So, I had originally intended that the answer was two (plus at least two subterranean routes).
But then I got your answer and tried to assess it by reference to the canon, and this is what I found.
The Hobbit says:
<blockquote>Quote:<hr> There were many paths that led up into those mountains and many passes over them.<hr></blockquote>
And Silma describes the movement of the Great Alliance:
<blockquote>Quote:<hr> From Imladris, they crossed the Misty Mountains by many passes...<hr></blockquote>
Both of which I had completely forgotten.
So I don't know the answer. Yours seems plausible enough. Ask us!

Neithan, Gorthol, Agarwaen (Son of Łmarth), Turambar, Wildman of the Woods are names Turin assumed for himself. So, that`d be 5. Others like Mormegil were invented by others for him.
Did I miss any?

Ok, lazy old man, having just returned from a sensationally scrumptious meal of fresh roadk -- well, let's just say I've got a question on food (<img src=wink.gif ALT=""> ). Describe the waybread that the Dwarves and Bilbo used on their journey to Erebor.

"Farewell! Wherever you fare, until your eyries receive you at the journey's end."</p>

Cram was kind of cracker baked by northmen for journeying. Heavy and not too flavorful, it was sustaining. But just in terms of high-nutrient count, unlike lembas it did not nourish the spirit.

In between the Great Gulf (south of Gondor) and the Far North, what was the largest bay or gulf to be found? In the First Age, that is.
