Silmaril Looks like the "Silmarillion" might be making it to the screen after all...

I just saw this on a film news blog: http://filmnews.com

LUCASFILM TO MAKE MIDDLE-EARTH PREQUELS

It was announced today that Warner Brothers has sold the rights to the “Lord of the Rings” Appendices, describing the earlier history of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, to Lucasfilm, which will adapt them into a series of animated prequels to the New Line movies.

Negotiations are now believed to be taking place with Tolkien Estate for permission to use extra material from J.R.R. Tolkien’s other works.

A spokesperson for Lucasfilm denied that there were any plans to make radical changes to the setting: “We want to stay as close as possible to the original– allowing for a bit of artistic license, of course.”

The first film, scheduled to be released in mid-2010, will tell the story of Lúthien, the half-Twi’lek Jedi princess and her companions Beren Cyberhand the space pirate and Huan the talking bantha as they battle the forces of evil throughout the galaxy of Arda.

It is not yet known whether Peter Jackson will be involved.
