Well, at the part where Dom gets his splinter, I yell "Owch!" a bit loudly, and proceed to tell everyone in the room the story... And whenever there's a mountain scene I wave my arms like I'm directing helicopters and get funny looks from my parents...

-Your siblings insist you speak Elvish to their friends, just to show off your geek-ness *I told him to go kiss an orc *

-You just barely escape death by making LotR comments while watching Harry Potter in a room full of HP fans... *Heh heh...Basilisk? No way. BALROG!!!*

-You walk to your friend's house barefoot, ignoring the scaldingly hot pavement and rocky backroads... *I'm gonna have blisters tomorrow*

-You get your mom to do the wave for Boromir the disco king. *I couldn't help myself! They were playing disco on the radio!*

My computer's throwing a fit, so I can't give you a link, but there's a link to a site about the laws of heraldry in ME on the third page of RPG Resources in the Shire.

I should do that! Do you mind if do? The only problem being that if I did no one would ever want to go to the movies with me ever again. I guess I would have to go with all of you then!

Once again, do you mind if I copy? The "what is this new..." thing is a really adaptable quote, I can't believe I haven't realized it's usefulness until now.

I don't mind if you copy either of them. With the "what is this new..." one, I used recipe 'cos it rhymes with devilry. Better effect.

This is the third time I'm typing this:

You go to Leicester with your family, taking four toothbrushes. When you return you notice there are only three. You go up to your dad, toothbrushes in hand, and say in your most mystical voice, "Three there are here, yet four set out from Leicester."

You don't get a weird look from your dad for this.

I had a really good one, but I can't remember now! *Bangs head against wall*

Edit: I remembered! YAY!!

-You have 5 lists in your "Favorites" One for general LotR sites, one for LotR games, one for LotR Humor, one for LotR Fanfiction Archieves, one for LotR Message Boards, and one for LotR Humor. *heh heh...I book mark waaaaay too many sites*

-You're currently in debt to your mom because you just couldn't help yourself at Kay-Bee toy store. So...many...action figures... *But hey, now I have Boromir!*

~ When you and your sister walk into a jewlry store at the mall and you immediately walk over to the "ring section" and start muttering to yourself in a Gollum-ish manner, until your sister has to drag you out of the store.

When your best friend makes up her own language, just so that she can have comebacks to your random elvish.

When you're in line for a roller coaster, and it's a really long line, and you start talking to the in front of you. Somehow, you manage to get the conversation around to LotR, and educate her very thoroughly about why the movies are not the best source for LotR knowledge. You then explain to her exactly why HP is not a wizard...

You no longer get strange looks from your best friend when you say random things involving LotR. (It's best when it's a quote from the book only, because she doesn't know those yet.)

You know you're obsessed when you continually attempt to write poetry with a prosopopoeia (or apostrophe) to any of the Valar.

You know you're obsessed when you insist on refering to yourself as an elf-friend.

You know you're obsessed when you complement pretty ladies by saying, "You look as worshipful as Galadriel".

You know you're obsessed when you've registerd in every LOTR-related site you can find.

That's me! I have a section for LOTR things, a section for Barrowdowns things, a humor section which contains mostly LOTR humor, and a section for my favorite LOTR character (*coughcough*Sam*coughcough*).

Ah, yes, one has made progress if one no longer receives strange looks. Although for some of us that stage is probably not that hard to reach.

I thought of a few more things I've done, so what could I do but share them with you all?

-When you notice little things written in Tengwar (done by other LOTR freaks), and you translate it. Response: "You can read that?!?" (I knew a guy who haad this necklace thingie that he carved elendili into, and so of course when I translate and we start to discuss the two meanings of the word, we get a couple of weird looks, "not agains", and "come ons" from the other people at our play practice).

-When you spend half an hour or so figuring out the characteristics of the an thennath poetic form, and write it all out as if doing a poetic analysis, instead of doing your homework (proof that anything is fun as long as it has to do with LOTR: I don't like doing poetic analysis. I liked doing this. Or perhaps it also has something to do with the fact that the only poem in an thennath that I know of is the poem about Luthien in FOTR).

There! Were those long enough?

Rimmo nin Bruinen dan in Ulaer!" And then I was surprised when it didn't work. My cousin just stared...

Yeah, same here. I'm sure I've done this, I just can't remember a specific instance (it sounds like something I would do). But it's really hard to get it right. The whole a,b,a,c,b,a,b,c thing is quite challenging (if anyone knows what I mean).

~I got two new kittens and named them nothing other than, Samwise Gamgee and Rosie Cotton.

~I like to dressup in Middle-earthen garb and swing a sword around. The other night I chopped off several inches of the pullchain on my ceiling fan doing that. Unintentionally, of course!

~I so long to build a hobbit-hole on my grandfather's farm in North Carolina. I also want to broaden the stream in his front yard and name it The Water. My sister thought this was dumb, but my mom says that lots of people build underground houses.

~I named the big creek on my granfather's farm, Bruinen. It has a GREAT place to act out the Arwen/Ringwraith scene!

I carved the elf rune that Gandalf uses into a Magnolia tree in my back yard. By the way, I prefer to call them Mallorn trees. I also carved this rune at the rifle range (I call it Mordor). I wrote with a white rock on black rocks.

That's great! I love to wear my cloak around...randomly... with my Ring and my "hobbit pants" ...So much fun.

--When you shape sugar cookies into LotR characters and act out scenes with them...

Heh heh heh I sculpted the scene at the end of FotR with Frodo and Sam in the boat. *sniffles* I love that scene-it's one of my favorites. Makes me all teary...

The only thing with that is...the dough kinda melts in the oven...so the shape doesn't stay too well... Frodo and Sam kinda melted together to create a massive blob in the middle of half an Elven boat...

I have pictures! I was so proud I should post them... I made Frodo, Sam, Boromir, Gimli, the eye of Sauron, and the boat scene. Heh heh... Sam kinda..broke. I dropped him... but I ate the others. Yum.

Excellent!

Well, a few more of mine (I keep forgetting the really good ones! Argh!):

-Yesterday I was randomly standing around and pretending to swordfight (even the sword was imaginary, mind you) in much the same way that Aragorn does in the movie. It was fun!

-Many years ago, my class had fish in our room. Well, I fish-sat over the summer, and I named them all! There was Frodo, the young goldfish, and Sauron and Saruman, the little silvery ones, and I think the black-and-white ones were Gandalf and Sam or something like that!

-This isn't really about obssession as it is something that would make you happy if you're obssessed: When your parents actually seem to enjoy talking about LOTR with you!

When I went to PotC with my friend, the film melted, and to pass the time while we were waiting for them to fix it we pretended to swordfight, with air swords, and I died. It was so fun!

I love pretend swordfighting... I have not clue what I'm doing, though so it's basically just me waving my hand around like an idiot... But that's okaaaaay...

I dressed up like a hobbit yesterday and scared my sister's boyfriend. I was speaking in Shire talk. "G'day, sir! Lovely day, isn't it? All bright and sunny and all; if you were to go out there you would sure melt on the pavement, and no mistake!"

That inspires me:
-You speak like a hobbit (or an elf...)
-You have dreams where you are Frodo *guilty sigh*
-You stay up till 3 in the morning reading LotR fanfiction. *Me?! No!*

When you "borrow" pages from your Grans newspaper, cut out LotR characters from there, stick them on your wall, and pretend it never happened.

When I was up to the lake with my obsessed friend and her family and cousins, her 8-year old brother was walking around singing over and over "Frodo Nine-Fingers and the Ring of Doooooom!!!" I think he might have gotten it from the animated ROTK, but I wouldn't know since I've only seen the Bakshi one.

We did that at the lake when we were in the woods looking for maple saplings to roast marshmallows with, and my friend's cousin who likes LOTR was saying "ow..." like every 5 seconds, and my brother says, "What's wrong?" She says, "My hobbit feet haven't grown in yet!" It was quite funny.
But now I walk my dog barefoot all the time, and the pavement doesn't burn my feet anymore. It's starting to get scary...

In one day, I have proved my obsession beyond a shadow of a doubt.
This morning, my sister and I went shopping for notebooks, pencils, etc, in preparation for school which starts next week. We then went to lunch. So far, I seemed to all observers to be a normal teen .

At Wal-mart, I saw a vest that was very elvish and I bought it, sacrificing my lunch for almost two weeks as I spent most of my lunch money on it.

One of the things on the menu at the restaurant was Wheat Grass. Among other things, about a tablespoon of wheat grass has the nutritional quality of two pounds of vegetables. I immediately compared it to lembas, mentally at least.

When we left, I called 'Namarie' to the server.

This afternoon, I spent about an hour and a half, cutting sleeves off of an old skate dress and attaching them to an old sleeveless shirt so that I would have an elvish type shirt to wear under the vest I bought this morning.

Yeah, after you get blisters a few times it stops hurting.

yesterday I was at the store with my mom, and we went past the electronics section, and on all the TVs they were playing TTT!!! Naturally I stopped to watch for a while, and even though there was no sound I knew what people were saying. (It's very strange to watch Theoden getting de-Sarumaned on at least twenty screens)

I pretend sword fight all the time. Why I did it just a few hours ago with a rolling pin as a sword and the sofas as orcs.

When you see your gran taing a blue pill and imediately think of Elrond. (Blue pill - Matrix - Hugo Weaving.)
That was scary.

Hee hee! What was the reaction? Did you get a funny look? I love getting funny looks. It always happens. Especially when I speak Elvish to my friend's parents. My friends are used to it by now...

-You buy contacts that look like the Eye of Sauron. *My mom wants to make me get contacts...I want purple ones!*

-You write in Tengwar with chalk on friend's driveways. *I wrote my name *

Sting You know you're obsessed with LotR when... Part Three

You go to your friends house, pretend to be Gollum, hiss and scare him. Alot. He wouldn't sit near me for ages!

You see a book called Beastslayer. You miss the "B" and think: Easyslayer = Romendakil, it's a biology!

hissing and pretending to be gollum is fun... fun fun! ^^
You know you're obsessed with LoTR when you have a Part III thread because you couldn't finish discussing all the ways you're obsessed in part I or part II (huzzah for Roman Numerals)

I covered my room in Tengwar script and spent hours recreating the White Tree of Gondor onto all my storage.

Not the most obsessive, but my room is a lot more Lotr-ish now.
