Facts about the village of Stock:

Found in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. It was a large village by Shire standards..

Stock was located specifically in the Marish on the Stockbrook near where it flowed into the Brandywine River.

Two main roads passed through it: the Stock Road that came east from Tuckborough and the Causeway that ran south from the Brandywine Bridge.

Many of the inhabitants of Stock were house-dwellers, like most Hobbits in the Marish.

The Puddifoots were one of the prominent families in Stock.

The farmers around Stock acknowledged the authority of the Master of Buckland across the Brandywine.

The finest beer in the Eastfarthing, it is said, could be found at The Golden Perch in Stock.

Description of the Inn:

The Golden Perch is the main inn at the village of Stock, located at the intersection of Stock Road and The Causeway. It is very near the Stockbrook and just across the Brandywine River and a little north from Brandy Hall in Bucklebury. It is a well known inn, famous for its beer which was sometimes described as 'the best beer in the Eastfarthing.'

The inn is built against the edge of a hill, the building part with a tall enough ceiling to welcome men and elves, but the door is round, and rather low. Upon entering the building, the character walks into the large Common Room. Directly opposite him is a wide, stone fireplace. To his right is the counter, or bar, behind which, the casks of ale are mounted. Behind the counter, also, is a door leading into the large kitchen.

On the wall with the fireplace in it is a door leading into a hallway that winds into the hill with rooms branching off on either side. Here are located the rooms in which hobbits sleep, also the pantries, wine cellars, and other rooms necessary for the upkeep of the inn are down that way.

On the opposite side that the kitchen is located is another wing that has several rooms for bigger folk to lodge.

The kitchen is large. It has its own door leading outside. Beneath it is a cellar where in are stored apples, potatoes, and other roots and vegetables. There is also a large, walk in pantry attached to the kitchen. Outside the kitchen is a large vegetable and herb garden, easily and quickly accessible.

The stables are located on the side of the yard that the kitchen is on, at right angles with the Inn. Attached to the stables is a large yard that horses can be exercised or let loose in. Hitching posts are also available outside the barn for visitors who will not be long and do not want the horses to be unsaddled and put away.

Time frame for the Inn:

It is the year 2957 of the Third Age (1356 Shire Reckoning/SR by Hobbit reasoning), 16 years after Bilbo went on his adventure. Frodo is not yet born. Strider is wandering about in the wild and he and Gandalf have met and become friends. The rangers are watching the Shire and not letting any evil things enter. Sauron has declared himself openly and has settled in Mordor.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 5 (14 Thrimidge), 1356 SR will be the date that the game starts.

The weather is bright and sunny but with a little cold in the air. Cool enough to have a fire indoors.

How time movement and the weather will be handled at the Inn:

The Time at the Inn will be directed as the Innkeeper sees fit. Time will not be moved forward abruptly by the Innkeeper and without being mentioned (and, if necessary, discussed) before hand on the Discussion Thread.

Depending on what is happening at the Inn, some days will be played out in full, others may start in the morning but end up skipping to the evening if nothing is happening and it doesn't cut out any important part of the story line. Then there will be times when the time will be moved forward several days.

If a player has a character who will only realistically be at the inn for a night or two (a passing traveler – elf, dwarf, man), we will try to direct time so that this player gets his or her chance to play in the Inn as much as possible.

This being the case, if you want to join in with a character who will soon be passing on, it may be a good idea to ask on the Discussion Thread how long this particular day is going to be played out, in case time is about to be moved ahead.

---------------

Weather will for the most part be directed by the Innkeeper and can be discussed, too, by the players on the Discussion Thread.

Dealing with posts from different places:

If a character who is going to be fairly consistent in the inn or will be returning now and again is somewhere else for a short time, it is possible to write Away posts.

If you have to write an Away post please put at the top of your post in Bold: Away - your character’s name - where he or she is.

For instance:

Away - Seredic Boffin - Hobbiton

Preferably, do all your writing at the Inn or in the Inn’s property. Away posts should only be used when necessary and not over done.

Character Description Form for the Inn

Each player in the Golden Perch will need to submit a brief Character Description form to the Inn’s Discussion Thread. It can be submitted at the same time as you make your first post to the Inn Thread.

Posts for characters who do not have a Character Description put on the Golden Perch Discussion Thread will be sent back to their writers. You may of course repost once your character’s description is on board.

Please use the following form.

~*~

Name:

Age/gender/race/where from:

Appearance (very brief physical description/or as detailed as the player wishes to be):

Bits of character/history you feel might be helpful in defining the character
(again, as brief or detailed as you wish):

The Innkeeper -- Folwren

NAME: Seredic Boffin (Dick)

AGE: 52

RACE: Hobbit

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: A pipe

APPEARANCE: About average height, 3'4". Merry, round face, twinkling brown eyes, brown curly hair. Wears a green, embroidered (though not terribly expensive) waste coat, a white, cotton shirt.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Dick is a merry hobbit, quick to laugh and easy going with most everybody. Loves a big crowd at his inn because it invariably means a lot of orders, and that's good business. He's an honest fellow, however, and generous, too. He's willing to help people in trouble when he possibly can, and when he can't really help them, he does his best to anyway. He loves his wife and children and is protective of them as is his rightful duty to be.

HISTORY – Mainly to do with his Family: Seredic grew up in Hardbottle until he was about 24. At that time he and his older brother (just come of age) moved to Stock, his brother because that’s where the girl he wanted to marry wanted to live (it was near home) and he because he wanted to do something. He fell in love with Lily Goodbody, the old innkeeper’s daughter, and when he was 36, married her. She was the old hobbit’s only child, as well, and he was very pleased with her choice of husband. Dick’s father-in-law taught him everything about the inn and Dick worked by his side faithfully to learn what he needed to know - understanding that when the elderly hobbit retired, he would take his place as owner and innkeeper. At the beginning of the year 1356, when Lilly’s father was 80, he told Dick that it was time that Dick would take over.

In the sixteen years between their marriage and when Dick took possession of the Inn, Dick and Lily had not been childless. They had seven children, three girls and four boys. Their two youngest are twins, a girl and a boy. They do their best with raising them, but seven kids is a lot to look after, and I highly doubt their Mum knows about all of their escapades.

The Cook – Firefoot

NAME: Celandine (Cela) Brandybuck

AGE: 56

RACE: Hobbit

GENDER: Female

WEAPONS: None, except maybe a rolling pin…

APPEARANCE: Around average height, somewhat plump. Brown wavy hair often pulled out of her face, brown mischievous eyes.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Celandine is rather eccentric; some might even say slightly touched in the head. For example, she has a habit of periodically rearranging certain items in the kitchen, either for her own amusement or sometimes to confuse the assistant cook. The bustling cook can be absent-minded with things she considers unimportant and is often thinking of several things at once. However, she usually reaches the right conclusions eventually and beneath her exterior has a heart of gold.

She is never, however, absent-minded about her cooking and always knows what is going on in the kitchen. She does like to experiment and sometimes comes up with odd (but usually tasty) concoctions.

HISTORY: Born and raised in Brandy Hall, Celandine has always had an affinity for the unconventional or unusual. She learned how to swim at an early age, thoroughly appalling her mother. As she grew older, she found great enjoyment in scaring off potential suitors that her parents selected. After a few brief relationships (with lads her parents definitely would not have approved of) she decided marriage was not for her and found a job instead as the assistant cook at the Golden Perch. When the head cook died a few years later, Celandine naturally stepped up into the position.

Assistant Cook – Celuien

NAME: Primrose Smallburrow

AGE: 28

RACE: Hobbit

GENDER: Female

WEAPONS: None

APPEARANCE: Average height for a Hobbit. Curly dark hair tied with a yellow scarf, brown eyes. Arms and face sometimes red from bending over a hot stove or reaching into an oven. Wears plain, solid Hobbit clothing in brown, green and yellow and a typically flour-dusted apron.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Primrose is a bit flighty and can rapidly shift from good-humored laughter to annoyance. Somewhat short tempered as Hobbits go. But overall, she's good natured and will quickly regret any fits of anger. Said anger mostly results from someone interfering in the kitchen. She's quite proud of her cooking, particularly her baked goods, but eagerly accepts direction from more experienced hands. Skeptical, but once her respect is earned (a typically difficult task), she will listen to whatever she's told. Outgoing and even boisterous at times.

HISTORY: Primrose was the middle child in a large family with five siblings to the household. Often feeling overlooked in the chaos of her family's small house in Stock, she would slip out to ramble the Marish on her own when not busy with chores or other tasks. At 20, she found herself eager to gain independence and came to the Golden Perch looking for a position. Primrose was accepted as assistant cook and she has happily worked under the head cook's guidance for the past 8 years, though Cela's eccentric habit of hiding important items when they are most needed (or so the relatively hot tempered Primrose interpreted her actions) always remained a source of occasional tension in the kitchen.

Server/Maid – Undómë

NAME: Rowan Muddifoot from Rushey

AGE: 30 (b. 1326 SR; 2926 III)

RACE: Hobbit of good Harfoot stock

GENDER: female

WEAPONS: pair of all purpose scissors tucked in the pocket of her apron, the blades covered in a thin leather sheath; sling and a pouch of nice round river rocks of varying sizes – used mainly to discourage marauding pests in the garden or round the henhouse.

APPEARANCE: 3'2"; a sturdy lass; fair skinned with freckles sprinkled across the nose in summer; dark brown curly hair, shoulder length; hazel eyes; favors dark green skirts, white tunics, a black laced bodice; has a hooded cape of brown wool, the color of cattails.

PERSONALITIES/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Friendly with an easy smile; quick to offer an encouraging word; practical; reliable; quick thinker. Sometimes gives the benefit of the doubt too easily to people she doesn't know well – she does however go by the rule: Once burned, twice shy if she feels they've taken advantage of her.

HISTORY: Rowan had been sent at the age of 27 to spend the year with a cousin from Stock (Emerald) who had just had twin girls (Ruby and Pearl). At the end of that year, with the Mama and babes doing fine, the cousin's husband (Hap Puddifoot), a frequent imbiber at The Golden Perch heard of an opening at the Inn. He put in a good word for Rowan with the Innkeeper. She was taken on and has now been working there for 2 years.

Rowan's family: Father – Tolly Muddifoot (owns a vegetable farm, raises goats, fisherman); Mother – Fern; brother – Hob (32 y/o with an eye on a lass (Poppy Roper) from Rushey); sister – Primula (31 y/o spoken for by Minto Brownlock from Deephallow); sister – Aster (28 y/o); brother Tomsin (26 y/o) - all but Rowan are living on the farm.

Server – Tevildo

NAME: Tolman (Tollers) Burrows

AGE: 33

RACE: Hobbit

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS/EQUIPMENT: Tolman has never wielded a real "weapon" in his life. He did use a slingshot as a boy to chase after small animals.

His true love is fishing. In fact, given half a chance, he would much rather fish than work. He makes sure to stuff a line and hook into his right pocket just in case he gets a chance to run off to the Baranduin.

His proudest possession is his small boat.

APPEARANCE: Tolman has a mop of curly brown hair and large brown eyes. He generally has a mischievous look on his face. He is Stoor in origin, which means that he has a broader and heavier build than is customary for most hobbits his age. His stoutness may also be attributable to the fact that he has a real weakness for sweets and pastries. He generally keeps a bit of food in his left pocket to make sure he doesn't get caught in a jam without a snack.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Tolman, nicknamed Tollers, is an affable young hobbit. He can put in a day of hard work at the Inn. On occasion, however, he sneaks off down to the Baranduin, which is the place in the world he loves best. Here, he spends endless hours swimming, daydreaming, fishing, or rowing a small boat downstream.

FAMILY: Tolman's family, who are farmers, thinks that his obsession with the river is odd. They are of the opinion that, since he has recently turned 33, he should take a bride and settle down on the family farm. Tollers would rather work at the Inn, where he can escape his father's watchful eye. At the Inn, he loves to meet and talk with the various travellers, and occasionally to slip off on his own to the river.

Ostler/Groundskeeper/Handyman – Arry

NAME: Born Wildebrand Hayward, but prefers to be called Will (from Crickhollow)

AGE: 32 (born 1324 SR; III 2924)

RACE: Hobbit – Fallohide for the most part

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: Stout oak walking stick; small bow used for hunting; general purpose knife in a plain leather sheath at his belt.

APPEARANCE: 3' 7"; lightly tanned; thick honey colored curls cropped short; dark brown eyes. Given to wearing brown breeches held up by a plain dark brown belt with a brass buckle; light colored homespun shirt; brown leather vest with many pockets.

PERSONALITIES/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: At first appearance seems a quiet, reserved fellow. He is thoughtful. Not given to hasty judgment; likes to see a job done well. Does have a good sense of humor. Steady hand with the horses, ponies, donkeys; knows how to doctor them. Plays the concertina; nice tenor voice. Fond of the Perch's ale and a good pipeful of Southern Star when he can get it

HISTORY: Been at the Inn for 10 years. His Uncle Wilfrid Longholes, his mother's oldest brother had been the stabler/handyman for many years and had taken Will on as his assistant when the lad was 22. Will has been the stabler/handyman now for 4 years, since his uncle retired.

In addition to his main tasks, Will has found he has some skills as a brewer. And each year he brews up a cask for some of the holidays – his specialties are spruce ale, raspberry ale, and creamy headed dark porter.
He is the last of 7 boys born to Hamson Hayward (a well known pig farmer) and Pearl Longholes Hayward. His brothers (& their wives) starting with the oldest are:

Hamwise – 38 -- Opal
Virgil – 37 -- Buttercup
Eldon – 36 -- Camelia
Meriadoc – 35 -- Ginger
Reginald – 34 -- Sapphire
Fredegar – 33 -- Lily

They all live in Crickhollow and are married. Next year, at the age of 33, he will 'come of age' – his brothers' wives and his mother have no end of suggestions for him concerning suitable/prospective candidates for his wife. Will loves his family dearly, but he is very glad he only sees them by post and does not have to have the constant reminder that he should be thinking hard now about 'settling down'.

About Elves in Barrow-Downs RPG's:

Please use this description from Tolkien when crafting an Elf:

Return of the King – Appendix F: Tolkien’s description for the Quendi (The Speakers) – the name given to the Elves by themselves after they first awoke in Middle-earth.

“They were a race high and beautiful, the older Children of the world, and among them the Eldar were as Kings, who now are gone: the People of the Great Journey, the People of the Stars. They were tall, fair of skin and grey-eyed, though their locks were dark, save in the golden house of Finrod; and their voices had more melodies than any mortal voice that is now heard . . .”

Please use this as a guideline for describing your Elven character’s appearance.

The weather is bright and sunny but with a little cold in the air. Cool enough to have a fire indoors.

Saw the thread was open and thought I'd check in.

This looks great! I can't wait to play Rowan.

I would like to ask one favor . . . that we try to remember not to use each other's characters too much - that is talk for them or act for them. I really like the sort of gaming where one player leaves a sort of "hook" for another to pick up on and carry on with.

Just a thought. Very much looking forward to playing in the Golden Perch.

Good ideas, Undómë.

I also wanted to offer congratulations to Folwren and everyone else who worked so hard and came up with such interesting characters for regulars at the Inn!

Although I won't be playing an Inn "regular", I certainly hope to have an "outside" character who pops in now and again. Folwren - I have a couple of possibilities in mind. I will drop you a pm shortly and see which direction you prefer that I go before actually posting anything on this thread.

Again, thanks to everyone for their hard work. It will be so interesting to see how the storyline develops.

Thumbs up

Yes . . . very excited to have the Perch open for play. I have to say that Hobbit characters are some of my favorites to write.

Looking forward to seeing what Child will 'pop' in with

And I'd like to chime in, in favor of what Undómë said about allowing a character's writer to speak and act for him/her.

Am already thinking about my first post . . .

By the way - I really like the post with all the links in it. I think it will be very helpful. And I'm supposing that everyone who puts a character description on the discussion thread will be listed there, eh? Will make it much easier to personalize posts that include other characters.

Good work everyone!!

Haha, I've already written mine.

I'm looking forward to writing with you all - there are some great characters. Celuien, nice to see you as the assistant cook - the last time I had checked, Folwren still didn't know who that was going to be.

1420!

Wow! Glad to see all of you here already! I'd prepared a PM with some stuff in it, including telling you that this thread was open, but I think it's unnecessary now.

Here's the other thing I had to address.

I had one question for you all. Are all of your characters staying at the inn all the time, or do some of you go home at night? Tevildo, Firefoot, Celuien, and Undómë, if your characters stay at the inn, they will be housed somewhere inside the main building, I think. Arry, if your character stays, I think he’ll probably have a room somewhere in the barn and stables so that he can keep an eye on the stock at all time. However, it is entirely possible and not too unlikely that the characters do go home at night, so if you want that, that’s fine.

I’m going to be trying to draw a map of the Inn and its grounds with the stables and barn included, so hopefully we’ll be able to see what it’s like tomorrow or so. I won't have time to do that today.

Undómë and Arry, it is an excellent idea not to play with other people's characters any more than absolutely necessary. I can promise you that I won't do it (excepting that first post, Undómë, sorry), but I can't promise you that new comers won't make conversation for you. (Arry tutored me on this concept, actually. Since playing his little brother in my first RPG I've been careful about playing with anybody's character without permission. . . )

And thanks, Child, for the congratulations. It's very exciting and I'm looking forward to it. PM me whenever you want, and with whatever you what.

Primrose will also be staying at the Inn.

I suppose I should add a history for her.

~*~

~*~

If it comes up, Primrose can explain why she doesn't live with her family by telling them that she never knows when the odd guest might want a snack in the middle of the night, and she wants to be ready for anything.

Nice to be here. I'm glad I talked myself into writing the character.

Rowan will need to stay at the Inn. Her family's little farm is about twenty miles south of Stock, in Rushey.

I did not get around to making out that map. The computer at work has somehow managed to aquire a bad case of . . . well, it's sick. I mean, it has a virus of some sort, and I can hardly work with it. I'll get it fixed hopefully soon. I'm sorry, Pio. Tomorrow, however, I may have time to draw out the map. I'll be home then, but I'll also be busy. I'll do my best.

Tomorrow is also when the Perch opens. Looking forward to it, everyone.

Till then.

Not a very nice fellow, is Jack!

NAME: Jack Greymoss

AGE: somewhere in his mid thirties

RACE: Man (of Breeland)

GENDER: male

WEAPONS: A blackthorn walking stick with a big knot at the upper end. An oak handled knife with a much sharpened five inch blade, worn in an old leather sheath at his belt. A sling with a pouch of sharp stones also hangs on his belt. A set of pick-locks secreted in the top of his boot.

APPEARANCE: Tall, thin. Spends much of his time hunched over, hiding in shadows. Thinning sandy hair, sallow complexion, a jagged, ill-healed scar on his left cheek gotten in a fight with local farmer and his boys. Dirty appearing – from his scuffed, run down at the heels boots, to his raggedy brown stained breeches, to his once white tunic, now bearing the history of many scrapes, scuffles, and nefarious deeds.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Always on the lookout for easy takings. Would cheat his own dear mother, save for the fact she is more crafty and wicked than he. A cowardly sneak-thief and rumor monger. The sort who likes to ally himself with those who can protect him. But if cornered is a nasty, no holds barred, fighter.

HISTORY: Born and raised in Breeland on a hardscrabble little farm, just outside The Chetwood Forest, near the Midgewater Marshes. In his early twenties he left home looking to make his own way. And that “way” has proved neither easy nor profitable. Still it is better in his opinion than being chained to the life of a farmer or any other such drudging employ. Jack picks up whatever ‘odd’ jobs he can for a hot meal and a hay-pile to sleep in . . . that, and of course, the occasional bits of nefarious pursuit to line his pocket with what coin he can.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

And here is 'one of them Rangers' . . .

NAME: Hithadan

AGE: 50

RACE: Men – Northern Dúnedain

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: Long-sword, yew longbow, hunting knife; short iron mail shirt, plain iron helm, plain boiled leather vambraces

APPEARANCE: 6’1”(1.5m); 175 lbs(79kg); well muscled, lean; Black, straight hair; grey eyes; tanned skin. Dresses for working in: grey leggings and tunic; brown leather belt with a brass buckle; soft leather, well worn, knee high boots; grey cloak flecked with black and dark green. For more formal occasions: black tunic, breeches, and boots, black cloak with a small, old silver brooch with six-pointed star engraved on it.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: A reserved man with a dry sense of humor. Careful in his consideration of problems, he prefers to assess them from all sides. If need be he can make any necessary quick decisions as needed.

Considered a fair man, who expects others to accept the consequences of their actions. He is a realist, and not a romantic. So said, he does lack a certain sense of compassion for those who rail against what life has dealt them.

HISTORY: Born 2909 TA. Grew up in the Dunedain’s hidden fastness in the Angle. He is not married or promised at this time. He does have a younger brother, Orogil – to whose 2 young daughters, Almiel and Núneth, he is a devoted uncle.

Descended through his father from Estelmo, the squire to Elendur, Isildur’s oldest son. As far back as his family history is remembered, all the males have served as Rangers under the command of the Chieftains. Hithadan has served under Arador, Arathorn II, and now under Aragorn II, who has recently entered the service of Thengel of Rohan under the alias of Thorongil.

One of his areas of charge is the southeastern Bounds of the Shire, extending north toward the Greenhill country and east along the Brandywine. Other Rangers travels often overlapped with his, providing the sharing of recent happenings in Eriador.

The inn in Stock is one of his best sources for information in that area. A quiet way, keen ears, and the willingness to buy the next pint often brought him invaluable bits and pieces of news.

Wonderful! I've wanted a chance to play a hobbit again for a while now...

NAME: Griffo Tunnelly

AGE: 91

RACE: Hobbit

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: Naught but his shepherd’s crook.

APPEARANCE: Standing at only about 3’1”, Griffo swears he has shrunken in his old age. The hair on his head and his feet has gone completely white, and though it was once very curly, it now simply wavy. He lets it go pretty wild most of the time, so it forms a rather large mess on his head, with many untidy strands and cowlicks sticking up, out, or down. His face is quite rosy, and of course clear of facial hair, thick with wrinkles and creases, some making his face look drawn and as if he is perpetually frowning. Overall, though, it is only a worn look. His eyes are a misty hazel, but are always clear and sharp; his wits are still all about him, and he has a sharp mind. He wears a loose white shirt, normally not quite completely spotless, with a green vest and dark brown pants, and he always carries hid shepherd’s crook with him (though he puts it down and out of the way when he enters the Inn).

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: He’s rather a typical old ‘gaffer,’ except for the small twist being a Took adds to him. He is to a certain extent the ‘strange old man’ type: those who know him find any strangeness to be lovable quirks, those who don’t tend to be wary of him, some even declaring him not all there in the head. But many have been called that, especially in their old age. Griffo can also be labeled as a ‘grumpy’ or ‘crotchety’ old hobbit, and he can be harsh toward strangers. He is not all that quick to trust, but he is kind and normally very civil, though his straightforward tendencies can get in the way of the latter. Griffo says what is on his mind if he feels at all free to do so, but he knows he is not so free when what he wants to say will only make a situation worse, or is will cause unnecessary pain to anyone. His judgment is somewhat loosened when he’s been drinking, though.

HISTORY: Born and raised in Tuckburrow, Griffo consented to moving to the village of Stock with his wife shortly after the two were first married, and continued working in the field he had been raised in: shepherding. His wife, Melilot Underhill, wanted to be closer to her family in Woodhall, and he was not too averse to moving away from his home, being the more adventurous one, and a very loving husband. The two had five children together: three girls and two boys. None of them are more than a few years apart, and all but one have married. His beloved Melilot has now been deceased for a little over six years. It was rather devastating for him; he had always expected to out live her. His children try to see him as often as they can, but they have their hands full with their own families, and only one of Griffo’s sons still lives in Stock. Two of his daughters have tried to talk him into living closer to them or with them, but he refuses. He stays in Stock for his wife, and would never want to be a responsibility for anyone, anyway. He spends most of his time in the Golden Perch Inn – he is either there or tending to the four sheep he still has – having held a love for its beer practically since it was first established. While at the Inn, he loves sharing stories, and sharing words of wisdom from his deceased wife. He is not necessarily trying to ‘drown his sorrows’ through all of his drinking and his time at the Inn, but simply trying to enjoy life in his way, though he can get pretty gloomy at times. And by the evening, a mix of nostalgia and alcohol make it sometimes very difficult to get Griffo to leave the Inn.

Does Dick get to be one of the one's who knows him well enough to think his strangeness loveable quirks?

Glad to see you both here, Durelin and Envinyatar!

I like both your character's, Envinyatar. Especially the ranger. I like rangers a lot.

It would be lovely if he did. Anyone who works in the Inn and/or lives in Stock could have gotten to know him very well over the years, or perhaps, but they could have just as easily avoided him, as well.

EDIT: In my post, I had Griffo set up a chess game. I was not sure if chess exists in Middle-earth, but I could not remember any Middle-earth canon games, so I decided to risk it. Anyone can yell at me, and I'll just edit it out or exchange 'chess' with something else.

I'm back, and I'm so sorry I didn't give warning that I was going to be gone for two whole days. I wasn't expecting to be gone that long. I'm really sorry.

But I've gone and read over everything.

Welcome, Lilly and Durelin! Glad to see you. (I know I welcomed Durelin earlier, but not into the game itself. )

Firefoot, Arry, Undome, and Celuien - that conversation in the inn about the needed brides was hilarious! As tired and out of humor as I am, it still had me laughing!!

I'm having fun. I hope all you are, too.

Oh, and if you all see anythnig that's wrong with the post I just wrote, then let me know. I'll probably catch it tomorrow when I re-read the entire thread thoroughly - tonight, I just kind of skimmed it and then wrote. I'll probably either write another post tomorrow or add onto that one and put Dick into some real action again, so to speak.

Anyway, I've got to get moving on.

Forest Elf has just left Hobbiton.
NAME: Gable/Nolwe Florwen

AGE: 21

RACE: Elf

GENDER: Female

WEAPON: Short Bow

APPEARANCE: Gable Stands just over 5'7. She has thick brown hair that has a tendency to look wavey, and is ussually braided. She's older than she looks, she look's to be about 28 and can be caught wearing boys clothes from time to time. Her round gray always catch the light.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Gable is the sort of person who dreams of adventures, and loves to hear Bilbo's stories about his adventure, and is quite good at story telling herself, though she has never been on an adventure. Sometimes her love for a good adventure can get a little carried away, and when that happens, no one ever knows what to expect from her. She is always ready to help out when someone has a problem, needs a helping hand, or just wants someone to talk to. She trusts just about anyone after talking to them and has always been known to keep a secret, even if others tease her about not telling them. She can be shy around a large crowd of strangers.

HISTORY: Gable was born in Rivendell. When she was younger she was always getting carried away in her daydreams, and every once in awhile she would run away and not come back until late at night, each time claiming to of been doing some heroic deed, though only in her imagination. The stables have always been a place she loves to visit, there is not one horse in their stable that she had not ridden at one point in her life, so she is a good horse rider. When her parents died, she stayed with an elderly pair of hobbits here in the shire, where they nick-named her Gable, and everyone has called her that ever since, though her real name is Nolwe. They were old friends of her parents and her parents had asked them if anything had ever happened to them, that they would take care of her, and she stayed with them for a few years, but they passed away when she was 17, and she has been on her own ever since, but has always kept her sence of adventure. The elderly couple had taught her how to use a short bow and a sling for throwing rocks. For the past few years has been staying in the inn, as Will's assistant.
