I agree, Liv Tyler = HOT HOT HOT! ;D But I dont think this movie needs to be changed from the book any more than it already is, even if it would show Liv naked. (haha, yeah right. I WOULD LOVE THAT )

liv tyler

you know i agree that liv tyler is pretty but i just can't imagine her as arwen. actually i feel gwenyth paltrov would be better suited for the role. i don't really think russel crowe would fit aragorn's part though i thought he was hot in "gladiator"

I dont know the person who plays Aragorns name, and I dont think anyone else would without looking it up. By the looks of him, he is the worst possible pick for the role of Aragorn that they could have possibly chosed.. You know there is something wrong when Aragorn looks dirtier and more evil that Boromir does

But, as for all of your suggestions about the role of Boromir, I have read that Sean Bean plays the role perfectly in every aspect. Dont judge until you see the movie. He is a great actor.

And as for sex in the Movie, I dont think they should do it, and they wont. So it isnt really a logical question Dont worry, Im not Vulcan.

I'm a big fan of Sean Bean and can't wait to see him in the role. I'm just sorry that he's playing Boromir, since he comes to a fatal end, but not before making up for his sins. I'm sure this is going to be a film that we'll all see many times in order to study the characters and how the actors played them and seeing if they come even close to fitting the image that we've had in our minds all these many years. I'll wait until I see Aragorn in action before I make any judgment about him.

Viggo Mortenson is playing Aragorn and even though he may not look too great in the promos, ther is one thing I know for sure. Howver, bad he is it can't be worse than Liv Tyler fighting at Helm's Deep. Ugh. Anyway, I suspect he will act pretty well even if he doesn't look like the Strider we had in mind.
Humour is emotional chaos remembered in moments of tranquility.
Edited by: the Lorien wanderer at: 5/25/01 9:52:48 am

Hey, why do you all hate Liv Tyler so much? I dont see why she would be bad for the role at all. I guess I must have no taste in acting.
_______________________________________________ ________________________________________________ “One of the candidates had mercifully left one of the pages with no writing on it ,which is the best thing that can possibly happen to an examiner, and I wrote on it: “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.” Names always generate a story in my mind. Guess I shouldnt assume just by who you are named after in a Forum.

I think that Liv will play a nice Arwen, but as I said before, I do not have good taste in actors abilitys and I will have to wait until the Movie comes out to judge.
"Many that live deserve death.
Leonides

Okay - normally I would not refer people to another site as I think it is rude to the host, so I will preface this by saying that I think the Barrow-Downs forum is overall my favorite.

However, if you are interested in the Liv Tyler/Arwen fiasco, there are some very extensive topics and threads devoted to the subject. The best ones are hosted or frequented by somebody named Leonides who seems to have a lot of insight into the upcoming movies.

Personally, nothing has impressed me about Liv Tyler being cast as Arwen nor about the expansion of the role. However, there has been a lot of reassurance lately that the part has been considerably downsized recently largely due to fan outrage. Although she is being billed at the top the marquis (aaarrrggghhh), her screentime is being kept to a minimum.

She will be in the Flight to the Ford sequence and appear in Elrond's house, but apparently will not be depicted as some sort of sword-wielding warrior princess (thank Eru). Those in the know swear she will be developed well in keeping with Tolkien's style.

As for Liv, well, they could have done a LOT better. Her television interviews have not been promising, and apparently she describes her role as a faerie princess. I doubt she's even read the books. Oh well. We'll know soon enough.

- Maglor

Hmm...

I skipped three pages of posts for time constraint reasons, so I hope this hasn't been beaten to death yet...
Tolkien's storytelling is phenominal, we'd all agree. He characterization is so great that when I finished the trilogy for the first time on my own (my dad had read them to me before) I cried for them all. Poor Sam! Finally separated from Frodo after all that! Dorky, yes, but not my point...

But then he comes to a love story....

Whereas he spends pages devoted to psychological debate of right and wrong, bravery and cowardice, he decides just to throw in a simple "Oh, yeah, these two dug each other and stuff". That's cool. He was writing a heroic epic not a romantic novel. You just have to wonder about poor Edith...

I like Liv Tyler.... But yes, I would've picked a different Arwen...
~ Elerrina ('Crowned with stars'; a name of Taniquetil; Only thing that wasn't taken) 'Many are the strange chances of the world,'said Mithrandir,'and help oft shall come from the hands of the weak when the Wise falter."

Re: Hmm...

Who is she? But I love it when Liv Tyler liked her elf ears so much that she asked to keep them, and then she turned around and left them on the dash of her car. Obviously, they melted into a pile of goo. She isn't the brightest bulb in the box, but what do you expect when her mom is a groupie and her dad is Areosmith? *gag* I think she will be the character I will love to hate in the movies.
"I will, Lord." said Tuor.

LOL

Oh dear talk about needing a new paint job,but one thing I read in a interveiw with Billy Boyd that the actors/actresses were'nt allowed to take a souviner home. Billy Boyd wanted to take his sword but they would'nt let him.It might have been the Ring(Billy and his pals-Viggo Mortensen,Dominic Monaghan, and Sean Astin- would try every time Elijah Wood walked out of the dressing rooms to steal his Ring)I forgot.
But when I read the interveiw Boyd said that he was'nt able to take a sword home or anything instead he got a pair of brass hobbit feet. Go to www.theonering.net,click on the movies, find the scrapbook, click on it and then look around for the interveiw,(oh you might want to start at the end of the interveiw because in truth it's the beggining so start at the bottom and it'll make a whole lot more sense then when I read it)some of the stories in it are funny but then I laugh alot.
Sam1,Sam GAMGEE(just so me and Sam dont get mixed up )
Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons.

I think that any change made to LOTR would only contribute to my disappointment of the films and little else.
The story is just fine the way it is (it's actually the best book I've ever read) and anyone looking for a little nukky can go to the closest blockbuster store and rent the nastiest porn he can find. This is certainly not the place for it.
The least changes made to the original plot, the better the movies will be! and that's flat!

Maybe I'm just a Tolkien fanatic, but that's my opinion.

Movies are different from books, obviously. What I think is important is to stay as close to the BOOK story as possible. I also think that it is okay to add a little romance, not so much that it ruins the story told by the books, but enough to add necessary dramatization of a movie. A small love scene to emphasize the love between Aragorn and Arwen will only add to the movie, and build upon the believability of the characters. Im not saying that a scene should be added showing A and A bumpin and grindin, just a scene that demonstrates a true love felt between the characters.

I was wondering when someone would bring that up.

That was one of my worst fears. I was always afraid that when I went to see the movies with my parents for the first time, they would do something with Aragorn and Arwen. If that happened, my mom would pitch a fit, and I wouldn`t be able to own the movies until I was 18. So, if I could say anything to Peter Jackson right now, it would be, Thank you so much for not putting rubbish that does not need to be seen in the movies! I would like a lot of directors and their movies alot better if they did not have sexual scenes.

Fordim Hedgethistle has been trapped in the Barrow!
I never saw this thread before, so I'm so glad it's been bumped.

I thought that PJ was really rather coy and smart with the whole sex issue. He did what film-makers of the 40s and 50s would do when they wanted to hint at sex without stating absolutely that it had happened -- he goes to black or to another scene just as things heat up between Arwen and Aragorn (after the kiss on the bridge, for example).

The other trick he used is Arwen's legs. After she gets up from the bed/couch where she had been reclining with Aragorn (and that sure looks like morning to me. . .) she is backlit and we can see the outline of her legs through the dress: right up to the thigh. That was a classic way so 'sex-up' a scene.

I think he did it this way so the viewer could decide for him or herself what happened. For those of us of a more adult (or salacious) frame of mind, we are free to imagine that Arwen and Aragorn have a mature, healthy sexual relationship; for those of us of a more adult (but less salacious) frame of mind, they are free to imagine the relationship as Tolkien clearly did. And for kids, whose minds aren't yet in the gutter, it just looks like a boyfriend and a girlfriend having a chat. . .hurry up and get to the Balrog!!

Eye Sex in LOTR

Galadrial and Celeborn have been married for centuries. Maybe that is why she leaves at the end. Perhaps it is time for some new excitement for them also.
