Another Blow To the Hobbit Movie?
I happened on this article a few minutes ago.
Basically, it says MGM is in serious need of money in order to begin work on PJ's The Hobbit. Here is the link: http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/ex...ssible-outcom/

This appeared on theonering.net recently as well. The Estate was less of a problem - they just needed more money thrown at them. However, if there is no money...

Yes, but it's Warner Bros. (who now own New Line) that settled with the Tolkien Estate. The Hobbit movies are being made by MGM. MGM's lack of money won't prevent the settlement and might just lead to Warner Bros. buying the rights to The Hobbit.

On the other hand, a limited budget will certainly reduce the temptation to make the film a CGI-fest, though I was never worried on that account as soon as GDT (who uses CGI to tell a story, not the other way around) signed on...

GDT believes that CGI is lazy film-making and only uses it when absolutely necessary. Yet another reason why he is my hero.

Without reading the linked article I'm certain that The Hobbit will be made soon enough and that it will have a big budget. The tie-in to the successful LotR trilogy has made it a sure bet, or as close as one can get to that, and with the lure of a grand pay-off, any hurdles on the way will be overcome and investors will not be lacking.

Gee, I hope it's released before my birthday (December 21) of that year, when the world is supposed to come to an end.

This delay was pointed up as a real possibility a year back & I posted about it then. http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=15215 My suspicion at the time was that it was true, & it looks to be the case now.
