I'm fairly certain that Manardariel said this already, but since my French is hideous, I could very well be wrong. So I'll say it, on the off-chance that it hasn't been answered yet. Walda was a particularly shortlived king of Rohan.

You're both right but I wanted something slightly more specific...

Walda was King of the Mark for only nine years. He was mentioned in the funeral dirge for Theoden. His tomb was on the east side of the burial mounds and Theoden's was nearby. He was not of the line of Eorl, but was descended from Helm's nephew's (Frealaf's) line.

Galdor the Tall was Hurin's father and Lord of Dor-Lómin.

The other Galdor was sent by Círdan to the Council of Elrond.

That's another name for Turin, and I hope you're not going to make me list Turin's accomplishments...

It's hard to describe, because it is not really a person, right?
So, I would say, it was because of the curse of Morgoth upon Turin and his kin, Turin called himself son of Umarth, ill fate.

Túrin's father was Húrin Thalion. At the Nirnaeth Arnoediad he and his warriors fought a rearguard action that allowed Turgon to escape the field. Húrin was defeated by weight of numbers, captured and taken to Morgoth, whom he defied.

Many years later, having been forced to watch the destruction of his family, he was released to wander Beleriand. Unwittingly he gave away the rough location of Gondolin when he journeyed there to reprove Turgon for his failure to protect his family, thus playing into his old enemy's hands. During his later wanderings he also encountered and killed Mîm the petty dwarf in the ruins of Nargothrond, thus avenging the betrayal of Bar-en-Danwedh to the Orcs.

However, 'Son of Ill-Fate' doesn't refer to Túrin's real parentage, but is intended to conceal it. Therefore Úmarth is nobody at all.

Well, you are both correct, but since Mariska answered first...I have to give it to her. However, thank you, Squatter for the detailed information on Hurin.

Mariska, you're up.

An Orc of the Tower of Cirith Ungol. He was, as was reported to Grishnakh, the Orc that Sam had seen killed by an arrow from the tower while running for the gate.

Thanks, the indexes at the back of the books prove useful for this game...

State the inventor of the Cirth, and name something else he was famous for.

the inventor is Fëanor, he led the host of the Noldor back to ME to avenge his father's death and recover the Silmarils from Morgoth.
He was slain in his assault on Agband.
