Sting RotK expectations

Did anyone think RotK fell short of some expectations? I was expecting a little more especially at the end. the ending was kind of cruddy. i wanted to see the scouring of the shire. that was probably the biggest disappointment for me.
anyone share my opinion?

I feared the worst, so it far exceded my expectations. Well...maybe the Gray Havens did look a little shabby! I can't remember exactly though.

Well the film for me didn't exceed my expectations, but it did meet them. I have to admit I was dissapointed by the way they did show some of the parts (for example... Grey Havens, the ending, Shelob, etc.), but then I do understand why they did what they did (well in some pars, the ending could have most definitely been fixed though).

But I will save my final, definite opinion for when the EE comes out. I think that it will be a big improvement over the theatrical edition though. It will hopefully be a lot smoother and more detailed, and it will also hopefully contain a lot of my most favorite parts of the stories.

Shield I thought..

I thought it was great. The ending could have been better, but hopefully that will be corrected in the EE.

Shield

I was disappointed in that Theoden's death (which always makes me cry when I read it) didn't move me at all. I was also hoping for the houses of healing scenes and was pretty disaapointed when they weren't included.

ROTK (the book) had so many things going on in it that there wasn't time to do more than a cursory job in the movie. In the end, I felt like there was so much left out and yet I couldn't have sat there any longer. It's too bad there wasn't enough conflict to make RoTK into two films and cover everything in depth. In this case, a miniseries might have fit the bill better, although the production values would have been far inferior.

One thing that I was disapointed about was the time between the hobbits keaving Minas Tirith and the end, nothing happened and people I saw it with thought the ending was boring as a result. If the Scouring of the Shire had been shown it would've provided some more action towards the end, making the ending more interesting, especially to those who hadn't read the books and didn't understand the whole going into the west.

I'd say that the movie overall was great, but in a couple of spots it disappointed me (& I'm not going to count lack of Saruman, scouring, Frodo telling Sam to go, stuff like that):

*All of the battles. The battle at Pelennor wasn't anything great, & the battle at the Black Gate was much, much worse.

*Theoden's death. It would've been pretty cool to have him be fighting or something, & then all of a sudden have the winged beast scoop him & dash him against the ground, but Theoden seeing what was about to happen/his anguished face ruined it for me.

Plenty of other stuff I could add, but I've already talked about those on other related threads...

I am going to try some of these new fonts. Well I know that it will not be in the EE edition because Saurman is supposed to die earlier but I really wanted to see where Galadriel confronts him at the end for it really shows how much of a coward he is. What I am really want in the EE is an epiloge at the end that shows Legolas and Gimli going into the west. It may be very unlikely that it will happen but I am hoping.

And I'd like to see them show Sam going too...

Taken from an interview between Mr Beaks (?) from the aintitcool website talking with Phillipa Boyens and Fran Walsh about Return of the King. Note the bold text
Quote:
Mr B:On the other side, there’s the much longer ending.
PB: Oh, are you kidding? We could’ve gone on for a half-hour if you wanted to play out the whole ending.
Mr B:Was there some discussion at any point of, at least, a credit call or a narration of what happened to everybody? It seems like, in the book, a lot of the characters wind up going into the west.
PB: That will probably appear in the DVD.
This gives us something to whet our appetite, does it not?

Personally, the movie reached my highest expectations...well except maybe the sauron search light, but thats another thread. Anyways, I thought it was amazing, and I loved every second of it, but my sister had expected it to be horribly sad and tragic, so she was a little dissapointed.

Since it had already been announced that the scouring of the shire was going to be excluded from the movie, it did not bother me much when I saw the last film. If I had not heard that earlier though, I would have been quite upset.
