Silmaril End of Day the Fifteenth

A decidedly anti-royalty trend formed on day fifteen, and an angry mob, sounding the war drums in light of a continued attack on the Smith, summarily ousted the elven lass:

Princess Mee: 6 votes

Smith of Wootton Major: 2 votes

King Augustus Bonifacius: 2 votes

And so, Princess Mee was sent to live with her wicked step-mother, who hired a woodsman to cut out her self-absorbed little elven heart.

Day the Sixteenth finds 31 contestants remaining:

Farmer Giles of Ham

Ægidius Ahenobarbus Julius Agricola de Hammo (Farmer Giles of Ham)
Gram, his dog
King Augustus Bonifacius
Chrysophylax Dives
The Miller
The Parson
Sunny Sam (Fabricius Cunctator) The Blacksmith

Smith of Wootton Major/Leaf By Niggle

Master Cook Rider
Alf the Prentice, King of Faerie
Smith of Wootton Major
Nell
Queen of Faerie
Niggle

The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (Poems)

Goldberry
Badger
Old Man Willow
The Barrow-wight
Goodman Maggott
Fíriel

Roverandom

Roverandom
The Wizard Artaxerxes
Mew, the Seagull
Moon-dog
Mer-dog
Uin, the Whale

Mr. Bliss

Mr. Day
Archie
Teddy
Bruno
Herbert Dorkins
Egbert Dorkins

I'm not a member of any league, mind you, nor was I hired by our resident Smith of Wootton Major. It's just that...umm...erm...his name is too long.

EDIT: Extra "o" removed. Save Esty from bugs!

I'll jump on that bandwagon and give an additional reason for getting rid of this character:

Quote:
Ego Augustus Bonifacius Ambrosius Aurelianus Antoninus Pius et Magnificus, dux rex, tyrannus, et Basileus Mediterranearum Partium
How many productive things could his team members have accomplished in the time it takes just to say his name?! Besides, nomen est omen, it starts with "Ego".

++King Augustus Bonifacius

(minus the second o, by the way...)

Silmaril End of Day the Sixteenth

Regicide was the name of the game on day sixteen. The foes of the Smith backed down but cries of "Save Elempi!" still rang acrss the beach, and Auggie Bonnie was made their whipping boy.

A.) I'm already a free agent with a dislike of bandwaggons that aren't my own- and Smith is definitely not my own.

Well, Saucy, if you plan to make good on the idea of voting for the same character every day, the snores won't all be yours! There's nothing wrong with campaigning to save characters one really cares about, is there? I want Smith to stay, and if the only way to accomplish that is by bandwagoning to get other characters expelled instead, why I choose that efficient method! Therefore:

++Herbert Dorkins

Really, if Tolkien hadn't been the author, I wouldn't have bothered to read the Mr. Bliss story, and I don't care nearly as much about its characters.

One person (or, at most, two people) voting for the same contestant each day until he or she goes is not boring. That happens frequently in these shows and is my general chosen modus operandi. What is boring is for everyone else to simply vote the same way each day, which (however satisfying for them) removes any element of excitement from the "contest".

The situation is easy to remedy, though. Either Smith is voted off and the game can move on, or people stop voting en masse for the same character just to save him (which is hardly justified, given that only two at most are voting for him) and the snorefest becomes a proper contest.

The third option, as far as I am concerned, is simply to opt out and leave you all to your cosy arrangements. Which, as I said, is a distinct possibility the way things are going.

'Tis far, far easier to work Dorkins into a parody than Smith of Wootton Major.

So we are here on a Dorkin plane.
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where insensed wills clash by night.
And Diamond counts the chads by day.
Fall as they may.

For this alone, it must be a double vote.

Silmaril End of Day the Seventeenth

Ah, I love the smell of controversy in the morning. A mini kafuffle arose when some found fault in the voting style of others, but at the end it did not change the result any:

Herbert Dorkins: 4 votes

Smith of Wootton Major: 2 votes

Mew, the Seagull: 2 votes

Niggle: 1 vote

And so, Herbert was spanked with a battledore until his bottom bled and he died from blood less.

There is a fourth option: realize you can't get Smith (because there are too many who love the character {not LMP but the story character}) and move on to a more realistically removable candidate. Then the game can go on with more interesting possibilities. Why not give it a try?

As for my vote today, I have no problems with evicting....

Quite. Smith for winner!

++SMITH OF WOOTTON MAJOR

Oh, I seem to have voted for Smith to go by accident. What a disaster. Everyone, vote for Smith and you might persuade me to change my vote. How does that sound?

Celuin (and others - you know who you are), why not save yourself the time of visiting this thread simply by arranging a standing vote, as follows:

+ + Whichever one littlemanpoet votes for

Well, that would take some of the fun out of come over here to irritate the anti-Smiths.

Besides, I'm perfectly willing to vote differently than LMP...if the attacks on Smith cease.

Well, now that this thread is getting to be more about personal politics than being just fun and games (which I originally thought it was supposed to be), I will simply vote

++Estelyn

off.

Well, Spm, I think that if you (and Ang in this case) are going to continue to vote for someone until they are gone on the basis of "that's the way the game goes" then I don't think you can fault others for piling on other tribespeople to keep Smith from going. After all...that's the way the game goes.

And it's quite often that a leader emerges (in this case, perhaps lmp) that other people rally to to save their favorite. It's to be expected.

Poor Esty...

You don't realise, alas, from the PAST Survivor threads, that this is how it inevitably goes. It is ABOUT the characters, of course, but what makes it FUN... er, or Mirthful... is the reasoning that we come up with. Not, of course, that we want to get rid of characters for that REASON, but because of the reactions it gets.

Really, all this personal assault is a part of the game, and not to be taken seriously. However, if you're easily offended, 'tis best indeed to drop out.

Meanwhile... hmm....

I've often identified with SPM and his anti-popular candidate positions, but he's taken such a liking to getting RID of Smith, that I find it rather more amusing to KEEP someone in this juncture.

Therefore,

++ Mew

As for my no-bandwaggons-but-my-own personal rule... well, I started this bandwaggon yesterday, didn't I?

Apologies to one and all if my style of playing these games has offended anyone. Especially you, Esty. It was not my intention.

My posts are meant entirely in jest, I can assure you and, as Formendacil indicates, these games have recently tended to go this way. I am slightly frustrated by the collaberative effort to save Smith, but in an enjoyable and rather amused way. As Formy accurately identifies, I tend to take an "anti-populist" approach, and so I always tend to end up railing against the majority. For those who have not played these games before, I can understand how my posts may have seemed a bit off. For my part, it is purely part of the game, and not meant personally in any way (I appreciate that lmp has closely associated himself with my nemesis in this particular game, but my Smith votes should not be taken as any reflection on him personally, but rather a prodcut of my anti-populist approach).

I hope that I can tempt Esty back to the thread with an offer not to vote for Smith again ... well not for a few days, at least.

And, to show willing:

- - SMITH OF WOOTON MAJOR

+ + MEW

Seagulls! Dirty, messy creatures. As anyone who lives close enough to the sea (which seems to include most of the British Isles, these days) will testify.

I do, however, hope that my vote today, and my agreement to hold off on the Smith votes, will be reciprocated with a more open competition in the next few days.

Sorry. One more comment.

I will say that I don't think it is best played in that way. The game is much more fun when there are a number of factions - and therefore alliances to be made ... and broken.

Boots Triple post!

Of course, I coud always pull a Kuru and say that it was always my intention that Smith should win, as and when when he finally does.

Has anyone noticed how, in these games, everyone seems to be able to claim great satisfaction with the result, however it goes ...?
