Sting The Line of the Dwaves of Erebor

I just finished making this, I like having these sorts of things in text format for posting on forums at need. It's identical to the one in Appendix A of the LOTR, except a couple points/notes I added in that help with grasping the time of things.

The Line of the Dwaves of Erebor

But it is not known when Durin or his brethren first awoke, though some think that
it was at the time of the departure of the Eldar over sea. (Around 1130 YT)

Tolkien decided that Dwaves would live to right around 250 before dying of old age and would marry and have kids right around 100. It seems really suspicious with how closely that is kept, never varing by more than two or three years.

I wanted to try to zone in on the time of the dwarves awakening but I dont' think it will happen, 1130YT is probally the best guess to be had. It's a shame the Dwarves weren't better documented.

Perhaps the Dwarves were more strict about marriage at that time. They probably did not have a great deal of control over the time of their death, but maybe their bodies were just designed to quit at 250 (although Dain lived past 250 and was still going strong before being killed.)

Very true.

Did tolkien really mean to put Dwalin as living 340 years. I can't imagine he did but with all the editing LOTR went through how would an error like that escape him.

Oh wow, I never noticed that he lived that long. That really is unreal.
