Do you live with someone from Middle-earth?
Do you live with someone with Middle-earth, or perhaps have a best friend from Middle-earth?
This weekend I realized, to my delight, that 4 people from Middle-earth live at my house. First, I have to be honest and say that I am probably a female version of Bilbo. I may have wanted to be an Elf princess when younger, but things always turn out different than what you think. I am older, write history, love to teach and tell stories to children, am always ready to drop things for an adventure, and adore Elves. Plus, I am a hobbit and I like Frodo a lot. So I guess that makes me a female Bilbo! My youngest daughter is Sam. She is the most kind, helpful child I know and prefers to stick closely to one special friend. My older son is an Elf. He writes poetry (just won three awards, not that I brag much!)and is more reserved and is very much into what I would call spiritual things. My husband is Aragorn. He is very serious about his responsibilities to his family and community. He is concerned about doing the right or moral thing which isn't always easy when you are an attorney and have pressure from clients. He also married someone (me) who was of a different ethnic/religious background, but his folks came around once they knew me. Quite a household -- two hobbits, one Elf and one human, but we generally manage to get along! And, yes, I have two "best" friends--one's a Frodo and one's a Sam. sharon, the 7th age hobbit

I have a friend(sort of)who reminds me of Saruman, and I'm not just saying this either. He acts all nice and everything and makes you think he's the coolest guy in the world and he has the funniest sense of humor everand then Bam!he turns on you and starts telling you off and calling you things that I wouldn't want to repeat to my mother. It kind of reminds me of how in "The Voice of Saruman" how one second he offering the world to King Théoden and the next he's insulting him.
I guess I am sort of like Galadriel in the way Maikadilwen said about her mom, If one of my friends is upset all they have to to is walk in the room and I know they aren't A1 spiffy keen(you can thank my mom for that saying )but on the other hand i certainly don't know Everything!

Be careful! I'm not sure if that Saruman guy sounds like a friend. Though I've had some strange ones in my day too. sharon, the 7th age hobbit

My dad is a bit like Saurman!
One minute he is buttering you up one side and down the other, the next, cussing you for everything under the sun and calling you every thing but a child of God! I am a cross between and elf and Gandalf - deeply spiritual, poet, loves nature and animals, a mentor to many, people have told me that I am wise beyond my yrs. I am a visionary, see things for what they are, believes the impossible, has a longing in my heart for all that is good and right. I think that this one poem sums up my life. Quote:

My brother is a human, always pesting me, but when I need him, he's there for me! My best friend is an elf, she's always honest to me, a really good person.
I don't know what I am, maybe an elf, or a wizard, or a hobbit, I don't know. I always try to be myself, and at school, you got a lot of groups, and I'm in no one and in all of them. Sometimes a bit a wiseacre, but that's more because everyone sais I'm so smart, wich is not always fun. But I'm always silence, and sais only the things I think they're useful, so a little boring, but I think I'm a mmm... 'respected' person, and someone who tries to be nutral in things, only when I got a strong meaning. I think I would be a cross between a half-elf and a wizard. I live with two Saurons, one Gaffer and one, well I'm not sure what my mom would be. Both of my big brothers treat me like Sauron treats an orc. My dad is conservative, old fashioned, and really wise and smart(just got a Ph.D ). My mom is unique. She's not really aware of what's going on, but set in her ways and kind of stubborn. Who would match that description?

Why yes I do.
From my friends' point of veiw, NOT mine, they swear I'm Frodo. I guess that would make me a female verson of Frodo, which I think there is nothing wrong with. They say this because I have always strived to put others needs before my own. Now, my grandfather, who actually just lives down stair from me in my apartment building, is Gandalf. Not only does he look like him, he just seems to be the closet to him, the way he acts, his voice, his wisdom. He even smokes a pipe! Now I used to live at home with my parents, and well, Dad was Gollum. Mom was a female verson of Bilbo. My best friend, that lives next door to me in the apartments, is Sam. |

Child, the verse about the Eldar - Cry for the Dawn - I wrote that a few months ago.
I do a lot of writing. I have writen two books - neither are published. I have one poetry book - which I am in the process of designing the cover and getting published, with about 12 poems, 3 Middle Earth inspired poems, and now working on a fan fic.

I don't really know who I am myself, but my mom is kind of a Gandalf or a Saruman. My dad is Wormtongue (not in relation to my mom) and my brother is Gollum.

Alas, no one in my house is really like anyone from Middle Earth. My old roommates were just a little too "gone", I guess you could say.
My Dad is somewhere between the Gaffer and Theoden. My mom is kinda like a Valar (because she always says that I don't appreciate what she does for me). My sister has to be Eowyn, because she doesn't always do what she is told, but she has a heart of gold and she is wonderful to be around. My friend, Morgan, and I are like two little Hobbits who have a sense for adventure! |

So far my younger bro who is 16 is a real life version of Sauron himself...with his bossy attitude he comands my niece who is a Nazgul to bug me the entire day.
Then a good friend of mine is Sam as he is always ever helpful...when i needed a shoulder to cry on or even to workout in the gym he`s always there. Well that`s all but the rest has yet to come!

Raefindel -- I admit that I also have a mother-in-law who is Sauron! Perhaps our mothers-in-law know one another, or something. But my own mother is a female Gandalf. She's not formally educated, but she is one of the wisest people I know. And she's 91! (I came very late in life!) sharon, the 7th age hobbit

orlandoandsaran, how could your dad be a mix of Gandalf and Wormtongue????
I think that my mom is a mix of Sam and Bilbo. Very helpful and caring, and she loves history and geneology.

Okay, okay.
Maybe my dad isn't like Gandalf and Wormtoungue. I said the wrong person. My dad is sometimes Gandalf because at times he gives great advice but the next minute, he suddenly turns moody and starts acting evil like scolding me without giving a damn. And at that moment, he then turns into Sauron! Although my dad is a 'better' version of Sauron! =p But my mum is Gandalf...i love her too much! I can say the same for my dad too but he's scary at times! brr.... My big bro is Eomer and my little bro can be said as a mixture of Gollum and Wormtoungue! Ahh! That, i can say about my little brother. He tells my mum wrong counsel(things) about me and then I get bombed by my mum. grr....

Ooooh, well I might live with one or two people from Middle Earth. My Mom is definitely a hobbit, she's short, and nothing makes her happier then when she's alone at home with a pot of soup and a book. Her idea of the perfect vacation is staying home, relaxing and doing absolutely NOTHING. My brother is probably just a human mebbe a Numenor. His biggest interest in ME is his ME parody he's writing. I'm definitely an elf, tall, graceful(well sorta ), I have a great love of music, literature, the arts, and languages. I'm very good with animals, whom I sometimes prefer more than some people. I can be perfectly happy alone, or with a group, as long as music is involved. I write poetry, sing well, and play the flute.

I'd like to think of myself as an Elf, although I probably don't qualify as one. heh heh. I'm not tall like an elf, but i love music, I'm a musician (pianist and violinist) and i'm good with languages and literature. I love story-telling too.

my sister is a balrog. evil, fiery, and incredibly dangerous (seven scars). my mom is a bit like Sauruman. she loves to grate me down into little pieces, and does not understand my obsession with M.E. she says i need to get a grip on reality. sometimes she's nice, and a great mum, but one wrong move and she goes all spastic. i would love to consider myself an elf, though if you saw me on a bad day, youd probably run away screaming (im not excatly the embodiment of beauty) and i have a bad, bad temper (lots of people think im a frigid b*tch, but its usually the popualr people). though i do love animals, and the stars and night sky in general (before i ever read LotR)and nature. o well.

Hmm, interesting topic. We have a lot of spastic mums and evil mum-in-laws here.
Older sister- Gandalf. She is cranky yet lovable, knows almost everything, and can be called upon to get me out of trouble when needed. Younger sister- odd cross between Angelica Baggins and Feanor. She is horribly vain, plus rebellious. she can be very nazgul-ish when she likes, but I have yet to see a creature of middle earth with a bedroom as messy as hers. Younger brother- Ted Sandyman! Annoying, makes people cry, yet popular (ah, the twisted logic of this pitiable world!). Dad- the Gaffer all over. Very wrinkly and funny, but can be rough-spoken when agitated. Mum- Galadriel. Knows everything - especially when its something bad you've done - formidable, Queen of whatever ground she happens to be standing on and more. Although she is not accompanied by a host of special effects... Grandma- Lobelia Sackville-Baggins. Bitter, cynical, feels that something has been stolen from her when in reality she is the one who has stolen from others. And finally, because he can be sweet-talking one minute and scratching you to pieces the next, Saruman is embodied in... my cat |

When I started this thread, I didn't know people had all these "interesting" relatives and friends! I didn't know we'd come up with so many Wormtongues, Saurons, Sarumans, etc.
Does anyone know any Valar, or have one as a friend sharon, the 7th age hobbit

My cousin Anthony, almost 12, is Pippin. He will do anything to get a laugh out of you.
I can't honestly think of anyone in my family who has the character of a Valar or Valier. Well Austin, almost 5, does remind me a bit of Tulkas. He can be fighting mad and when he hits something, he is laughing! Strange little boy. I am so concerned for his teachers and classmates when he starts school this August.

Hmmm, this thread makes me feel lonely. I have no friends who are from Middle Earth except a mate who lived in my house for 6 months last year who has alopicia (spl?) and he could be Gollum or an orc except that in character he's more of a Merry or a Pippin. (Actually that's a frightening combination) Heigho I am an elf and my friends have stopped laughing at this now and actually ask me to come round their houses in costume because they're genuinely interested, so may be I'm not so lonely after all. Yet again I ramble, sorry!

Extemporaneous essays prompted by a slight tinge of homesickness...
What a cool thread! I hope more people come in...
My youngest brother, B., (not yet 15) is a clear Boromir. It's a good thing he's the youngest of the four of us; he's a born leader, and if the oldest, he'd have bossed us to death! My oldest brother, N., (19) is strong-willed, but B. is even more so. On his tee-ball team, when he was 5ish, he earned the nickname "The Little General"! Napoleon Bonaparte himself was merely the Little Corporal. B.'s good at sports, and really enjoys them; currently, basketball is the favorite. And he loves warlike games - computer, Airsoft, little army guys (when he was younger... and not so young... ) - and lately war books. Boromir is his favorite character in the books and the movies, too. If a Vala, he would be Tulkas, I think. Now, N., the oldest... I see him more as a Denethor. Not the negative qualities so much, but more because of the similarities between he and B. N.'s like B., with the sports ability; N.'s very good, both at baseball and basketball - he was no shabby pitcher, and was very quick and competitive on defense - but simply doesn't enjoy it so much as B. Also, N. has just as intense an interest in the same war games as B. If there's a difference, it's that he enjoys learning and using strategy just as much as tactics. On both counts, I think this mirrors Denethor. Or Aragorn. Or Manwë. T.'s the middle boy, at 17. It's a little hard to think what he is; really, he's a renaissance man! Like the other two, he's got all the warlike interests, and loves to play with his brothers; I'd say he likes it the least out of the three, but that's not saying much! He wants to be an engineer, enjoys science (which none of the rest of us, or my parents, do), and is a year ahead in math. He likes taking things apart and figuring out how they work. On the other hand, T. loves music, and he's good at it. He sings bass in choir and plays piano, cornet, and fife; I'm not a bad pianist, but he is good. He's taking AP English for the 2nd or 3rd year and doing very well indeed; he's not always very articulate in speaking, but he's an excellent writer. And he loves people - being around them, talking with them, joking with them... He's a really neat guy! How to you classify someone like that? He's definitely got some Faramir aspects (good at war, loves learning); but an engineer sounds like a Noldo - or Aulë. And music - the Teleri? Perhaps Celebrimbor; that's the jeweler chap, correct? My father would perhaps be Elrond, for he has learned much and is gifted as a teacher. But if so, he is an active Elrond, for he also loves playing games. He's helped coach a lot of my brothers teams, both baseball and basketball; now, he likes long bike trips and playing Medal of Honor on the computer. When I was home over the break, we finally managed to complete our home network. That meant in the evenings, I was kicked off my computer so that all four guys could hunt for each other in Stalingrad, Anzio, Sicily, etc. My father and N. are quite similar - but Daddy is no Denethor. My mother is both Gandalf and Elrond, for she is both very wise and very learned. And she does not lack courage and persistence - she has homeschooled both myself and N. through all 13 years, and is finishing up with T. and B. She is the one person I know who is like Varda. Sometimes she just... knows things. And not just about us kids, either. And I? I don't know! The more I analyze myself, the more contrasts I come up with. I think my temperament is phlegmatic - which would make me Treebeard. But in many ways, I resemble T. (or he resembles me - I am the eldest, after all), except in the engineering and science areas. And even there, it's not that I can't do it; I have very good grades in math and science and my minor is computer science; but I don't have his interest in it. On the other hand, while I don't build things, I do love sewing - especially costuming. I usually don't just following instructions and patterns. If that's not creation, what is? Come to think of it, I'm most like Arwen. Although I enjoy doing things, I truly like staying at home and hearing about what others do. I like sewing and creating on my own; I love music, although I'm only a moderate performer. I want to be a helpmate for my husband; I want to support him and bring him honor and joy. And I'm a leader, in my own subtle way; I'm an efficient mover behind the scenes. *looks at the length of the post* And it appears I'm a writer, as well! Besides missing my family... I moved back to school yesterday. *sigh* Graduation, here I come! Nuranar

My mother-in-law is Shelob... And I have, in this case, the misfortune to be Frodo...oh well! I do have the great fortune to have my husband as champion (he's not really Sam, but I've seen some VERY Samlike behavior from him at times.) I'd say he's more Denethor than anything, even though he says he's the Witch King. His favorite characters in the books were Gandalf and Gollum, but he LOVED John Noble as Denethor in ROTK, all the while acknowledging that he was, indeed, a cartoon villain.
Cheers! Lyta
