Thank you Elennar on the mention, those were two of the many rules of Horror Movies but are also suitable for real life, I mean, think about the seriousness of joking around with a demon summoning book, tsk tsk, only asking for trouble I say.

I like yours, ruts, because I seriously considered using the phantom's line as my senior quote. I ended up quoting a good friend of mine instead, but it was a close call.

I am intrigued by Mithalwen's new one - Most individual and bewildering ghost! It seems to twin with mine.
And yes, that is yet another of hers that I like.

Haha! You caught me.
I've been picking sig-material quotes from the New Movie Script, since I ran out of sig ideas, and being philosophical for long is so not me.
You like it, eh, Oddie? I thought you would.

I just kind of stumbled upon this thread and how surprised I was to see that someone actually liked my signature! Makes me quite happy.
But anywho I really liked what Gurthang has as a signature. "Why doesn't anybody go to the 'group therapy for people with fear of group therapy' meetings?"

The second one is, I suspect, a translation by none other than our own The Squatter of Amon Rûdh of part of The Silmarillion into Old English. I'm not sure, as my OE is very rusty, but it could his rendition of the first paragraph of Chapter 7. I don't have my OE grammar with me or my old notes, so this is just a guess. The last sentence of that paragraph, as Tolkien has written it in modern English, has many traits of Old English poetry--alliteration of 'l' and 's (and particularly the reversal of the sounds) ', the use of line breaks, the rhythm. If this is Squatter's translation, he has put his finger on a very fascinating feature of the style of The silm Of course, if I am wrong I won't show my head on the Downs for at least a week.

While I commend Squatter on the nice and nicely obscure quote, he would of course deny his authorship of it: History of Middle-earth IV has the first Annals of Valinor, of which Tolkien also wrote some in Old English. Squatter's sig is one such entry (HoME IV, vi, app.). The more elaborate modern English entry reads:
"About 2500 the Noldoli invented and began the fashioning of gems; and after a while Feanor the smith, eldest son of Finwe chief of the Noldoli, devised the thrice-renowned Silmarils concerning the fates of which these tales tell. They shone of their own light, being filled with the radiance of the Two Trees, the holy light of Valinor, blended to a marvellous fire." (ibid, vi). |

Got to commend Oddwen and Nimrodel_9 for continually showing their devotion to the Disco King by doing the Wave and encouraging others to do so. Boromir deserves that. Not the 88th version, unless he can challenge the incumbent King. Last edited by Lhunardawen; 01-07-2005 at 11:36 PM. Reason: to give credit to the Laconic Loreman |

Yes, Dragoneyes' is hilarious!
And I love Phantom's, it's my very favourite song from PotO. (Possibly excepting Twisted Every Way, I love singing that!) And Evisse's is quite nice as well.

Sharkey's disclosure of the HoMe quotation means, of course, that I can take full credit for perceiving the Old English structural patterns in The Silm. Which said credit I use to lessen my week's absence to three days. Sharkey had suggested I apply night sleep time to my absence to give me 'time off' for good observation, but I opted for the three days. It was easier as I was without computer access anyway

The Phantom Fan Club International seems the quickest way to fame and fortune.
Are male Eldar of the high House allowed? Is 5% of $0 still $0?
