Thank you Elennar on the mention, those were two of the many rules of Horror Movies but are also suitable for real life, I mean, think about the seriousness of joking around with a demon summoning book, tsk tsk, only asking for trouble I say.

Many thanks, Rutslegolas! It's funny because it's true!
Yours is quite fun, too, and of course you're adding to the myth of....the Almighty phantom!

Are you refferring to my current one? Its one of the random fragments that sometimes pop into my head about a story that I am currently working on about Vampires (gee couldn't ya guess).

Elennar I like yours, what's its origin, it almost sounds Shakespearian.

Thankies! Of course it sounds Shakespearean, it's the ending couplet of a Shakespearean style sonnet I wrote. And it's in iambic pentameter, like most of Shakespeare.

I'll let ye read the whole sonnet, if ye like.

And what does that mean?
Thanks Immy for explaining mine!

The second one is, I suspect, a translation by none other than our own The Squatter of Amon Rûdh of part of The Silmarillion into Old English. I'm not sure, as my OE is very rusty, but it could his rendition of the first paragraph of Chapter 7. I don't have my OE grammar with me or my old notes, so this is just a guess.

The last sentence of that paragraph, as Tolkien has written it in modern English, has many traits of Old English poetry--alliteration of 'l' and 's (and particularly the reversal of the sounds) ', the use of line breaks, the rhythm. If this is Squatter's translation, he has put his finger on a very fascinating feature of the style of The silm

Of course, if I am wrong I won't show my head on the Downs for at least a week.

While I commend Squatter on the nice and nicely obscure quote, he would of course deny his authorship of it: History of Middle-earth IV has the first Annals of Valinor, of which Tolkien also wrote some in Old English. Squatter's sig is one such entry (HoME IV, vi, app.). The more elaborate modern English entry reads:
"About 2500 the Noldoli invented and began the fashioning of gems; and after a while Feanor the smith, eldest son of Finwe chief of the Noldoli, devised the thrice-renowned Silmarils concerning the fates of which these tales tell. They shone of their own light, being filled with the radiance of the Two Trees, the holy light of Valinor, blended to a marvellous fire." (ibid, vi).

You are absolutely right, Nim. Mîm the Petty Dwarf is a most interesting character. Having met him, I am most sure he will be most amused by my suggestion. He hops fences better than he writes Old English.

Sharkey's disclosure of the HoMe quotation means, of course, that I can take full credit for perceiving the Old English structural patterns in The Silm. Which said credit I use to lessen my week's absence to three days. Sharkey had suggested I apply night sleep time to my absence to give me 'time off' for good observation, but I opted for the three days. It was easier as I was without computer access anyway

Heh. I just like Phantom of the Opera. Is that a crime?

This quote here (Arry's) is beautiful:
Quote:
In my mind the Star I still can find,/and the parting of the seas,/and the breath as sweet and keen as death/that was borne upon the breeze. - from Imram; J.R.R.T.
I have never heard it before. Where exactly is it from?

Oh, almost forgot: Hey, phantom, I'm a little short, and I was wondering... could you spare a few bucks?

But masks are so terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future. And they're so great for covering things up... like acid burns.
Ah, that might explain the mask...and the musical ability for that matter. (Just kidding)

All this talk of musicals gets me excited. I'm in a musical! And the rehearsals start today! *starts dancing* In olden days a show of stocking was looked on as something shocking now Heaven knows...Anything Goes!

Musical masked men? Sounds good to me!

I've heard a cover of TPotO done by the metal band Lacrimosa. I recommend it. The guy's voice is a wee bit screechy... but the girl... she's incredible.
I've heard that...

Ooh, Aina, I love Anything Goes! My school did it this year.

Are you hinting at something, Phantom? Maybe you're jealous because Eomer's got all the fangirls...I'll be your fangirl too!

No.

I never hint.

I shamelessly boast and brag.

I'm flattered, my dear, but it's not that easy. I'm much pickier than Eomer. He allows non-musicians and common movie fans to swell his ranks.

In order to join The Phantom Fan Club International, you must undergo rigorous testing (physical and mental). And even if you pass you must make further sacrifices- 1) 5% of income goes to me, 2) you must give up all other clubs (an exception will be made for Saucepan Man Fan Club members), and 3) you must erect a statue of me in your living room.

If this does not daunt you, send me a pm and I will get you an application asap.

Hey, phantom, I'm a little short, and I was wondering... could you spare a few bucks?
Ask me when I finally finish school. I'll send you the money right after The Barrow-Wight gets his long overdue cut.

The Phantom Fan Club International seems the quickest way to fame and fortune.

Are male Eldar of the high House allowed?

Is 5% of $0 still $0?
